Default Oil viscosity ?

I am posting this here because I d like input from those who use their cars on road courses.

My typical DE is four 30 minute sessions on track - for 2-3 day events.

My question is - Do you stay with Fords recommendation of 5/20 weight or use something else?
Thx.

I run 5w30, per a former FoMoCo engineer that worked on the 4.6 3v. He can't divulge much, but said he would NEVER run anything less than 30w in a modular engine. The 5w20 is simply to meet CAFE requirements.

I change mine after every event.

Agree with Matt, run 30W. I did some testing a while back, sent samples into Blackstone lab. Mobil 1 5W30 after 5 track days was perfect, zero abnormal wear. I don't race like Matt does but for a DE guy I'm satisfied you can get 5 or 6 days per oil change.

I use 5w30 based off of the same information Rodeo posted (there is a long thread on this topic at corner carvers). I'm too scared to leave it in for more than one event, even though the Blackstone tests don't show any significant wear metals. It's not that expensive and the oil is easy to change on this car.

I run 5w30 as well. Oil is the life blood of your car and like zero2sixd said it is cheap and easy enough to change out. I autocross way more then track my car but I still put higher demands on the motor then usual street driving.

Mobil 1 30w or 40w depending on what is in stock the weekend before a driver event. I sent a sample of the Motorcraft 5w-20 to Blackstone--otherwise fresh oil with only a single HDPE weekend and it had sheared to lighter than a 20w. Between that data point and the cc.com thread, I made the decision to never go below a 30w.
