18x9.5 vs 18x10 for Road Racing
All things being equal, like weight and cost of the wheel, which size would be better for road racing? The car has 320 rwhp and 300 ft-lb. And what size tire, generally speakign would you recommend/ Thanks.

I'll be ordering a set of Enkei PF01's from Sam Strano for my dedicated track wheel/tire combo. Thinking of R1s or Hoosier's.
Currently have 275/40/18 Bridgestone RE11s as a street/track tire on Roush 18x10 chrome cast wheels.

You could also drop down to an 18x9 for 275/40 tires. I run a more budget minded wheel: Motegi MR116s in 18x9et45 all the way around. Your biggest considerations should be how much do you want to spend and what do you like. Weight can be important but I don't race competitively, only HPDEs so weight isn't as big a concern for me. My wheels are 25 lbs a piece iirc. I also fit GT500 Brembos nicely behind these wheels.

18x10's would give you marginally sharper turn-in, though, and could be used to crutch softish turn-in behavior of a particular tire model.
Certainly for track use I would not step down to 18x9's with that size tire (its "measuring width" is 9.5", and you wouldn't want less than standard handling behavior out on the track unless you were being limited by some sanctioning body rule on max wheel width).

I am not very experienced. I am still in HPDE. However, my ability has exceeded the capability of the stock wheel and tires, so I am looking at an upgrade for both autox and hpde and beyond. I'd like to get one wheel with the maximum growth options for tires, depending on what I need or find work best. Planning R-comps for autox and sticky street tires like shaved Hankook Rs3s for hpde.

Assuming that you don't have to play tire size games to avoid having to upshift and that this is for open-tracking/HPDE/PDX, 275/40 on 18x9.5 is a decent enough combination.
