Default Replacing Shocks and Springs. Do I need Strut Mounts?

I'm about to purchase some Koni Orange STR.T shocks and SR Lowering Springs. After doing a lot of reading from different places, I've found conflicting views on whether I should also purchase/install upgraded Strut Mounts. Will the stock strut mounts be okay or should I upgrade to the GT500 strut mounts?

Back story.. Recently bought a 2012 V6 Mustang. Definitely a different ride than my RX-8. I loved the way the RX-8 handled. Doubt I can duplicate the feel of the RX8, but I would like to rid myself of the bounciness of the Mustang. Seems like I feel every imperfection in the road and the car gets loose on imperfect roads at high speeds.

So after a lot of reading it seems like the first step would be to upgrade the shocks and springs. But is the strut mounts also necessary?

It's hit and miss on the stock mounts, honestly. If you're going to go about it right (and it sounds like you are) then go ahead and do the strut mounts. Look into upper/lower control arms and a panhard bar for the rear as well. That should help settle the rear some, these cars go get a bit nervous on bumpy roads under acceleration.

Thanks. I'll start looking into the Upper/Lower Control Arms and Panhard Bar. I went ahead and purchased the Strut Mounts.

Any specific brands you would recommend for the Panhard and Upper/Lower Control Arms?

The KONI STR.T shocks were designed for the 2005-2010 Mustangs. If you install them on a 2011+ Mustang you need different strut mounts - the stock 2011+ Mustang strut mounts will not work with the KONI Orange STR.T struts. The GT500 strut mounts will work with the KONI Orange STR.T struts, as well as some other aftermarket strut mounts for the Mustang...
