I was looking at the rear suspension on my car and noticed that the area above the rearend bumpstop is shiny from contact, I have eibach pro kit and the supplied eibach rubber bumpstop with about 1-1.25 inch of clearance. How much clearance do I need and do I need to trim the bumpstop if its making contact?

Can you post a picture so I can see exactly what you're talking about? 1-1.25in of clearance seems a bit low. You shouldn't need to trim the bumpstop. I just installed a set of sportlines and had to install new bumpstops as well and have a hefty amount of clearance. Are you sure it's been bottoming out? Believe me, you would know it when you feel it.

 

Light initial contact with the OE bump stops will not necessarily be noticeable.

Hard contact, or contact with bumpstops made of stiffer stuff and/or not designed to progressively increase their resistance will very definitely 'hit' harder.
