Talking Five Speed Automatic ok for HPDEs?

I can no longer drive manual cars due to some physical issues I have suffered some years ago being hit by a driver / DUI. I was thinking of a fun daily car that can also see some hpde events. I was thinking of a 05-10 GT with the five speed automatic. I understand this car does not have flappy paddles. I was thinking of some suspension upgrades with better tires, original Shelby 07 wheels and maybe entry level Baer brake kit for the front with stainless steel lines. Preferable to left auto in D or manually shift. Is this transmission decent or garbage? Was thinking of using Maximum Motorsports Road and Track kit or Steeda kit. Ger.
