PROCAL TUNER QUESTION

PROCAL TUNER QUESTION
Can anyone tell me if the Blue pro cal tune with the n and y octane adjustment is a better tune i.e. more spark than the older black pro cal? and does anyone know if the tune in the black pro cal tuner is 91 or 93 octane tune?
Hope that is not confusing to read?
Thanks!

The Procal Manual is available on-line here:
http://www.fordracingparts.com/calib...structions.pdf
The manual contains the statements: "ALL FORD RACING CALIBRATIONS ARE DESIGNED FOR 91 OR HIGHER OCTANE FUEL" and "FORD RACING RECOMMENDS THE USE OF 93 OCTANE FUEL IF AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA".
Here are the pertinent instructions from the Procal manual for octane setting (2010 and older vehicles):
Use Up/Down arrow keys to toggle between Y or N and press ENTER to complete.
Important Note: Set this parameter to N initially. If you experience audible spark knock after programming your PCM with this setting, reprogram your PCM (steps 13 – 27A) and change this parameter to Y as soon as possible. If audible spark knock continues after setting this parameter to Y, call the Techline for assistance.
I assume the "Y" setting retards the spark for 91 octane. I set Octane for "N" per the instructions for the FRPP GT500 CAI and have not encountered any knocking with 91 octane gas.
I would venture a guess that the original CAI (black) Procal calibration is for 91 octane fuel, which is what the car takes with the stock calibration.
