Actually, primer color can affect final base coat color depending on how many layers of base coat you use, the thickness of each base coat, and if it's a metallic flake or not.
If you're spraying 3 coats of base coat then it's not an issue but if only one or two light layers you could see some difference between white, grey or black primer in how deep your basecoat appears or the tint of it.

Thank you. I have wet sanded the clear coat off. Or scuffed it with 1000 grid. Spotted grey sandable primer in some areas and fenders. Just going for same color, not show car. I was surprised that spraying a test patch over the scuffed clear coat came out really nice , so I'm going for it,

Ok. I went with black primer over gray. I feel better about that. I don't know about heavy grit paper. 1000 and 2000 seem to really work good for me ? I have a gallon of laser red coming. I bought two 32 ounce 2k clear coat. I'm hoping I have enough ?
