While speed density is great for a mild motor I've upgraded from speed density to mass air and let me say I wish I did it a long time ago. I had a car that made decent power and ran good on speed density but idle was always all over the place. Just being able to pull up to a light and not have the car surge with maf and actually hear the lope is worth the swap alone.

FAST's XFI can be programmed to run on alpha-n at and below a preset rpm, so no idle issues. I'm not sure if Megasquirt does that as well, Adder would know. Holley's kits are setup to run on alpha-n at low rpm as well iirc.

oh i agree with carburation being a better source of building hp . i am plnning on building a strocker 427 someday lol and i planned on going carb , i have nothing againist carb , if you know what you are working with you can make great power .
Just so you know if your sd to maf conversion lost power it's cause you f'ed something up or didn't do something right...I've never lost power from doing the conversion on other cars....cause the internal workings of a sd 5.0 block are no diff than a maf 5.0 block.....blocks are the same with same performance parts....anyway I run carb ftw!!!!

mjr, i have seen quite a few times when someone switched to maf and claimed they lost a little *** in their car... but they always seemed to like the new milage and idle lol

well mjr the conversion was done to the car before we bought it the engine and tr5ans and ecu are out of a 1990 gt that is in the 88 now ,we know the maf is funky in it for one ,that was the point i was trying to get tho, there is that extra sensor that you don't have to wrry about on an sd ,and yes there is a ppower lose when you look at the stock base lines and see a 20 hp lose with the maf as oposed to sd .so in my world 20 hp more means more speed but i could be wrong . the main reason we are converting back is that he wants it to be as close to stock as possible . i don't know why your 86 vert was dirt slow it must have had another issue cause my stock sd is pretty quick now .
