87 Notchback, want to modify engine 400hp range
Folks, I am new to the 5.0 Mustang. I want to modify the engine and keep it street friendly. I have an 87 SSP FHP notch with an 302 H.O. motor. I hear that these motors came with a roller cam stock. I have read an article on car craft that by changing out the heads to AFR's that a 400 horse motor was achieved. I would like to keep my fuel injection but do not know what would be required for it. I really do not want to install a MAF system. Need some help. Has anyone ventured this route? Thanks, Rob
My car currently has the following mods:
Intake spacer
MSD dis.
Crane Cam ing.
Mac cold air intake
flowmaster 40's
bbk shortie headers
posi rearend

Wow, I read the CC article and am amazed at the gains that can be had with a set of heads. I'm new here and with the 5.0. I'm still doing basic tuning and fixing all the things that the PO didn't bother with, all the while looking at future mods. I'm looking real hard for a 3.73 rear end to awaken the beast. I didn't mean to hijack this but I'm so new that I am not allowed to start a thread. Thanks for the link, Kelly.

Well, they exaggerated I'm sure. That dyno was run without any types of accessories, such as water pump, power steering, alternator etc. For all we know it ran an external oil pump driven from a source other than the engine. All of that contributes to artifically higher dyno numbers.
That being said, a good set of heads can be worth a substantial amount of power. A good h/c/i 302 can make a street friendly 360-400hp(depending on how you set it up).
