Default 1982 5.0 problems

I have a 1982 capri 5.0 4 speed. car is almost all original. 108k on the clock. and still cranking hard. i noticed the car had a tranny leak from the tailshaft seal. so i replaced it and filled up with gear oil. the tranny still has a pretty bad leak. and it is for sure comming out of the tailshaft. i was thinking maybe there was more fluid than i thought was in the trans when i filled it up again and its just too much fluid. considering i put in the whole bottle of gear oil. (thought it was real empty) and one more thing 4th gear is very loud in teh car. it is extremly loud. even when i had tons of gear oil in there it was very loud. all the other gears are fine but 4th is loud. i want to make the car last til the winter so i can pull the engine and trans. and real quick its a 7.5 inch rear correct? what kind of power can those handle? thanks guys i just joined and already like this forum

how did you fill up the trans, I don't know if the 4 speed cars had a fill plug or it you just filled it from the top, as far as how much fluid should be in it, google will get you quick answers (sometimes), the 7.5 rear end is not a rear end for power houses, the 8.8's are good and their are plenty to go around.

the SROD 4-speed had the fill and drain plugs like the T-5. did you fill it from the fill plug on the case or through the shifter? the fluid should be level with the fill plug.

jack it up and sit it on stands...level, of course. take the fill plug out of the side of the case. if oil runs out, it was too much.
