well as u may or may not know I have a 96 GT, yes an NPI, auto, but fear not It will receive a PI swap sometime this summer or a tranny swap. NOT THE POINT, anyway Girl has a Celica GTS, been driving 1 year, supposedly she drives crazy, someone told me she stalls sometimes still. Anyway, I was wondering would I be able to take it easily or barely or not at all? I assume I'd be able to beat it by a little from a light, just b/c torque and I got an auto, I can get a jump + her as the driver. Whatcha yall think? and how about on a highway ? BTW, I was able to beat a G35 from a light, and beat an Alfa Romeo 5spd on the highway.

 

Given that she is not a good driver, I think you will smoke it, especially from a dig, my friend has the same car and it is no contest at all (given i have a PI, 02 GT) but still i dont think the GTS is anything special

 

hmmmmmm I honestly don't know... it could very well be a drivers race.

 

typically, the only celicas that are quick are the alltracs--a gts+turbo. (basically a fwd supra) but theyre not too common on this side of the globe

If you were to race a quartermile,it would be a close race. Anything less, I'd give it to you, anything more, I'd give it to her... I drove my ex-girlfriend GTS and it was no slouch on the top end.... It has Toyota's VVT which is basically the same thing as VTec....

 

the 2000+ models have 180 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and 133 lbs./ft. of torque at 6,800 rpm.

i dont think too many mustangs are in danger of losing to one.

 

Tokin, you forgot to mention the 2000+ models weigh in at around 2500 lbs too.

180 horses in a light as hell car will do some damage, they've been known to hit 14s... which is WELL into a (non-pi) AUTOMATIC 1996 GT's territory.

 

is there anything special about those cars, or is it just a turbo celica? I know a guy who put a turbo kit on his gts, but since the compression os so high on that thing he didnt see much gain. I can still whoop him.

 

The newer ones are just an NA 1.8L engine with VVTL-i. VVTL-i is a system that has the same function as VTEC, just a different way of doing it.

If he didn't see a lot of gain, tell him to put some actual engine management into it and put a bit more boost into it.

 

I love the 4cyl mentality but seriously dont the 2000+ GTS celicas run a low 15 close to a 96GT
