So the rumor that there is a "perfect" rpm when you can shift without using the clutch is a myth? I've heard this from a couple of people.
no its not a myth.....how do you think truckers shift ?? they only use the clutch to take off. other than that, let off the gas, shift, back on the gas. i drove my Honda like that for almost a year. just cruising/easy driving, i didnt use my clutch. when i raced tho, yes. i always have. i get b!tched at for using my clutch when i race AND i let off the gas. i still beat cars....im not seeing a problem

Edit: i must add tho, it is harder to do in a "sports car", such as a 'Stang, at least the V8's due to most of them having a close-ratio tranny. i can mine to do it sometimes, but, if i dont, it just doesnt go in...no grinding. just, doesnt go. lol

Hey bro, there are going to be MANY, MANY different opinions on the best way to shift. I grew up drag racing and everyone does it there own way.

If you don't have a short throw shifter, GET ONE. I recomend MGW. I have it and I love it. It is the shortest throw of any I have dealt with, and It works slick too.

When you shift try to find out the point on your clutch peddle where it actually engages and then just push it in to that point instead of on the floor. And when you take your foot off the gas just quickly back it off to about half throttle then slam it back down again after you shift. You should have changed gears before the RPM's reach half throttle so there is no point in taking your foot completely off the gas. IF NOT practice on your shifts. I hope something in here helps you man. Cause there is no better feeling than running through gears.

the only way you can shift without the clutch is if you have a trans that they call a crash box. there are no syncros in it. u pull and push hard. No one runs them anymore it was a 60's and 70's thing.

The shop that's installing my new motor specializes in custom transmissions. They have a few they sell, very top of the line, that are basically indestructable dogbox gearsets. 5 speed or 6 speed. The 6 speed is supposed to be real money. 2nd gear ends at 70mph in the 6 speed! Both of them have no synchros, so you can shift at the track without using the clutch as fast as you can. If you want to drive it around town, you just double clutch. Pretty fricking sweet. They're trying to convince me to save up for one, but $7,000 is a lot of money to be spending on something that ain't broke yet!

Not true... You can shift without the clutch with our T-5's.. In fact, when I blew my clutch into a million pieces the other night at the track, I drove it home. Not fun, but It shifted fine.

Yes you can, but not at wide open throttle. Even with a Pro-Shifted trans (the red car in mysig has one) which has not syncos and stright cut gears, you still use the clutch.

push the clutch in, put the vehicle in neutral, let the clutch out, push the clutch back in, put the vehicle in gear(up or down), let clutch out....double-clutch.........i think. thats the way i understood it to be. but, faster than what that makes it seem. lol dad double clutches when he downshifts. i rev-match when i downshift. i shift normal when upshifting, cruising or racing.
