the flywheel will hurt the bmw in the 1/4. not enough mass to start hard and the engine is balanced perfectly with the stock. plus the beems suck in a straight line. around curves??? why try!

Beemers are okay in corners unless they have been worked a bit. Not great not all whoohooo OMG my ears are leaking brain cells in this left hander. They are okay. IMO they are over rated, hyped by magazines and TV. After having been in Germany, owning a BMW, and racing them with a 2nd Gen TA, well lets just say the Germans like Pontiacs better, as long as they are certain ones. You dont wanna race with an Aztec or a Focus, or even a Tarus. If you get beat by a BMW, I will point and laugh at you. I do like driving them, they make nice family cars, really nice ones. If I was over there now and money wasnt an issue I would have an 850IL for cruising, just becuz I could. They just dont have the shove you back in the seat feel I like,

wrwx is right, the inertia from the flywheel helps smaller engines get the car moving faster. Once its moving it does take a bit more power to accelerate that same mass, but the difference off the line makes up for it. Whats easier to stop? An empty Coke can on a string or a brick?

talked to my friend about the whole weight issue...
1998 BMW M3 5speed weighs 3175
1995 Mustang Gt 3565
maybe im just a better driver or BMW over rates there horsepower

He can't drive. If he had any clue he would absolutely wax your 95 GT.

I second that, or third that not sure, but yeah BMW owner needs to learn how to drive. Somebody said you had the weight advantage, not true, E36 M3s were not heavy at all, about equal weight, even E46 are not too heavy.

Also old M3s were capable of low to mid 14s stock, I don't think that is slow at all, plus your friend's M3 is modded, it's simple the better driver won this race, not the better car.

A friend of mine has a 99 M3 with a Dinan cai+ a dinan chip, we raced a couple of times and I always pulled away from him, I drove his car and he drove mine and the same thing happened. Those M3 have nice interior and in the handling-braking department are a lot better than a GT.

Yeah... My buddy has an M3. They're not drag cars by any means, but don't run a Mustang against one on any real curve track. They may be heavy but that weight helps them to grip asphalt like velcro.
