Being an auto is not a disadvantage, at least not as much as it is for the Ford AODE. The GM 4L60E is a good trans.

My friend has a Trans Am. I dont know much about Trans Am's, so I am not sure how fast it is. It does not have the Ram Air hood, and it is an automatic. How fast are these things?

I believe that it is a excellent trans. But when you start moding, that thing is not long for this world. It is probably GM's most commonly rebuilt trans. I think Fords tranny are a bit more durable. But performance wise hats off to the 4L60E.

Ummmm...no. According to EVERY shop I have talked to, they see 3-4 times as many AOD/E's than 4L60E's. Most never see the 4L60E's. Performance AND durability the 4L60E owns the AOD/E series transmissions. They are not bullet proof at all, but at stock power levels you prolly wont cook one for a while unless you get her too hot. The AOD/E's tend to go out a lot easier, ESPECIALLY overdrive.

4L60E's are not know for lasting long after modifications. I would also believe that there are more stock Camaros than Mustangs for some reason. (LS1 vs base GT-come on..)
