1st, this was not a freak accident. 2 this is a repost. Its already been found out that they were racing. Speeds were well over 100 mph. Its sad but this is what happins when non professionals street race, lives are changed forever. Not just those directly in the accident but whole entire familys. I greive for the parents.

Local news here covered it in more detail than the vid shown here.
If they wernt racing then why were they side by side on a single lane highway? They were racing & paid the ultamate price. $20 will get you on a dragstrip where its much safer & actually more fun to race. Its very sad & tragic no matter what the circumstances but the survivors will probably see jail time. This is why your insurance for drivers under 30 is so high.

if u watch the vid u can clearly see that it is a 2 lane each way road with another turn lane in the middle so u dont have to be from around here to know its not a 1 lane each way road so they couldve been side by side

the road is basically 2 lanes on each side... with turn lanes that come about every once in a while... but it is not a very wide road. I think frostbyte might have it mixed up. Nobody has said how fast police say they were going.. the only witness that said they were racing saw it 2 miles back... how can they know if they were racing? Just because they saw a Mustang and a Camaro that were louder then all hell. Can you show me where anyone said officially they were going that fast?? Fly to tampa, and drive on Florida ave, and you tell me if anyone in thier right mind would race on that road. Especially when there are much better roads (condition wise) to do it on with a 1/2 mile in any direction.

people are stupid they believe WHAT EVER the news said.... Just because 2 nice cars were driving besides eachother they had 2 be racing. My Friend Alan has a 10sec 03 cobra i drive beaside and dont race. My bestfriend i drive by EVERY DAY has a Wrx and we dont race. (unless its a planned thing somewhere safer) So everyone is going to belive what the news said they only post bad news and try to make it worse, just like in may when they said Gas in tampa is going to Reach a High of $3.50(reg)and its $2.39 here now. They are trying to get ratings thats all they care about!!!

Sad that this had to happen. But this kind of thing does not happen on it's own, there is considerable force needed to split a car in half. Freak accident my ***...

Mustang, I live in Tampa/Bradenton. This has been discussed on several boards with people the know these kids. What happened, was they were both driving, the Camaro his a deep bump lost a bit of control then hit a curb then hit the Cobra, sending him spinning through a concrete pole (supposedly from the driver of the camaro). This wasn't a "high speed race" - It was wet out on a tiny road. The driver of the Cobra, was known for not racing in those type conditions. I don't to speculate like the rest of the people, but the only fact I know is that the drivers said they were not racing. You live in Tampa - have you seen Florida? Would anyone in their right mind race or drive like an idiot on that road?

Hrmm....I guess thats what happens when you hit something doing 55 or under right? BS. I really feel bad for all involved, but they WERE OBVIOUSLY doing "something wrong" and they knew the risks of the game. That doesnt change that what happened is very sad though.

Very easy to split a unibody car in half when its being whipped around at 50-60mph, and it hits a non breakaway cement pole that's not giving an inch. Remember, mustangs have no frame - like we've already talked about. You also don't realize the force 60mph has. That's not a slow speed to hit something. Leave it alone, it happened - but this was something that was an unfortunate accident for once not related to street racing.

I don’t know what the posted limit was at the scene, but I doubt it was 50-60mph. There where 2 cars at the scene, one lost control of his vehicle, crashed into the other which in turn led to this. The drivers where both unharmed, one passenger dead. The drivers WILL face manslaughter charges. And based on what the media said (and folks, the media is powerful) they will get convinced…

Even if you say street racing wasn't involved, the people on the street will say otherwise and will nail the 2 boys to the wall.
