Just a FYI, I believe the limit on Fla ave there, is 40 in some spots and 45 in others.. The passenger was killed because he was ejected from the car (normally meaning no seatbelt). Manslaughter might not be around the corner. Everyone is hoping it isn't, because that would be another real tragedy.

Sorry for the loss. I hate to see when things like this happen. You guys can stop speculating as to how fast these cars were going. Wait for the police report which more then likely will say speed was a factor. They usually do. I'm pretty certain these cars, due to their age, have black boxes that record speed, rpm, throttle angle and braking. Down here in South Florida they used the black box out of a TA to determine that the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he t-boned another car. I've seen these boxes used on other occaisions as well.

I was watching something on TV about those boxes.. they can only be used with consent... dont know if the fact that someone lost thier life with superceed that, but i know if i (god forbid) wrecked my car, they need to have MY permission in order to look at the stats from it...

I believe they can subpoena you in order to get the information. I'll look into it some to let you know.

someone in this thread said something along the lines of " a witness said they were doing 100 mph".
out of the many witnesses that were there, they used that ones word over all others to get the media some attention
and make it look like they were racing.

since when did we all take what the media says, word for word?

exactly. It might've been me - there was 1 witness that said they were racing, and they saw a Camaro and a Cobra with loud as hell exhaust "racing" side by side about 2 miles before that accident took place...

**** happens. If they were racing, most likely the passenger knew what was going on. Mostly any passengers I have in my car are there to videotape anyway....well, used to be.

When I wrecked my LT1, if someone would have been in the passenger side they'd have died. That kinda changed the way you look at things. Usually my gf or my best friend were the only two that'd been with me. I couldn't live with myself knowing they died because of my stupidity.

Street racing is bad, we all know it, but all parties involved knew the risk/rewards at hand. No one should be tried for anything. Maybe some wreckless driving/exhibition of speed/speeding/etc....but not manslaughter.

Pisses me off that the government and car makers would do that.

My auntie (who was 7 years younger than me) was 8 months pregnant and her boyfriend wrapped his early 80's model Mercury Capri around a lamppost and ripped the car completely in half killing her instantly. He survived to live with his guilt. He was'nt racing anybody just being an idiot in his car with my pregnant auntie. This happened in May of 1993 in Tracy,CA and they were teenagers.
