Definately hire a lawyer. This will cost you a few hundred dollars but IT IS WORTH IT!!!! From what you said it was just a misunderstanding. The only thing you should have done differently is just agreed with everything the cops said and adressed him/her as Sir or m'am. Tell the lawyer what happened and he will be able to get you out of it.

I can help you, Im a cop............

#1. Dont get to upset, logic will win your case, not emotion.

#2. Have everybody in your car put a statement down on paper, so they can remember what happened.

#3. This will not got to traffic court. It is a Misdemeanor, and will go to regular criminal court.

#4. Because it is a Misdemeanor, when you plead not guilty, you will get a public defender. This kind of case is not important in criminal court, because they are dealing with Gangs, Drugs, Rape, Murder etc.....Tell the public defender you have a list of witnesses. You lawyer will get a copy of the police report. Have your lawyer talk to the guy of the other car, who already made the statement that you did not do anything, Have him say that, both attorneys should talk to the deputy D.A. If it goes as it should, and I have seen, the other guy will get done for speeding, and you should walk. Just stay calm.

Also, yes, some cops are ********. I tell people if 10% of the population are jerks, then 10% of cops are jerks. But, most of the people I work with are real good people, and do heroic acts everyday that most people will never hear of. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

All the ignorant cop bashing is annoying.

I'm pretty sure every single cop basher in this thread drives like a tool and was simply given a ticket for breaking the law & expected sympathy from the officer. Everytime I've gotten a ticket, I've deserved it and the cop was only doing his job and trying to protect others from my idiotic actions on the road. Hell, even the one time I was a victim of circumstance, I still deserved it because I was driving a loud, flashy car at 1am. You won't hear me calling cops in general ********...

im not defending the COPS in this situation, but STFU...

you all sound soo stupid saying cops are worthless, yea they can be dicks alot of the time. But that same attitude keeps soo many people alive everyday!

I hope it works out for you! Sounds like you should have no problem, as long as you present a good case!

you obviously havent been to northern virginia before. there are a lot of good cops out there who do their job 100% and they are respected by me. but there are also a lot out there who are worthless pieces of slime. everyone knows what happened to me a year ago (well some do) and lets just say they have harrased innocent members of my family members for doing absolutely nothing this past year. so while there are some good cops out there, it is ignorant to say all cops are just doing their job, because believe me, a lot of guys think just because they have a badge they can do whatever the hell they want.

If any of you guys are from California...I am unaware of any agency who has cameras in the cars. It is mostly an east coast thing.

Get a lawyer and fight it. You def. have a case there.

All cops are not tools. Some are cool, and some are not. Many times, they are just doing their jobs. I have done my fair share of stupide stuff and got away w/ it when the cop could have taken me out.
