GTO!
To start off w/, yes, I did just register in order to post in this thread, so save me the leecher etc comments...
Now, I am a former owner of both an 02 Mustang GT, and an 04 Pontiac GTO so I feel I can view it from both sides. The 02 GT was slow. Im not trying to be harsh or critisize anyone else, MY 02 GT was slow. I really disliked the Mustang in general and didnt keep it for very long. In my experience, 04- GTs can run anywhere from high 13s to mid to low 14s in stock form. Moving on to the GTO. It was definitely faster than the GT, but it wasnt other wordly either. I liked the GTO for the most part, but also didnt keep it for very long either. In my experience, 04 GTOs can run anywhere from low 13s (on rare occassions) to low 14s, w/ most falling in the mid 13s in stock form. Now, its my understanding that the new 05+ GTs can run mid 13s stock, in contrast to the new 05+ GTOs that can run high 12s, mainly low 13s stock. So, having all that said, 05+ GT vs. 05+ GTO = GTO wins the higher percentage of times. 05+ GT vs. 04 GTO = close split, 50% per. 04- GTs vs. 04+ GTO = GTO the higher percentage of times. If you question the above times or remarks, then you obviously have some other motive than getting to the facts. Dont post stupid stuff that makes owners of whatever car you drive look stupid in return.
EDIT: Also, if my ownership of either cars is called into question, Im more than willing to provide pictures of each that I have.

My track witness experience called in, I'd say that stock for stock......a new Mustang GT and LS1 GTO are a driver's race(stock for stock). That meaning........that depending on what kind of drivers (average to really good) are behind the wheel, it can go either way. All things being equal (driver element taken out of the equation)...then yes, the GTO beats the GT everytime. But unfortunately, cars still lack the ability to drive themselves.
But I will say this.....the GTO has a narrower margin for error when it comes to launching than the Mustang has. I think that's why there are alot of GTO drivers out there that don't get what they should out of the car. Having driven an LS2 GTO, I would say that getting that thing out of the hole would take alot more skill than it would in my 05 GT.
Of course, I still find it hilarious that we all like to quote "stock for stock" in the S/S section.....considering that very few, if any of us in here are still stock.

I know, I was making a joke of the "stock for stock" quote. Yeah, he does have too many cars.
GTO's are ugly? This coming from someone who owns something that can be seen on every street corner. nothing special about a car you can see 10,000 times a day. Now, for the stock GTO vs the stock GT. I don't know where you get you're facts but the stock GT does not beat the stock GTO unless its the 04 and then maybe. GTO's are pigs? Now thats funny since the GT can be catagorized as the same, not that much weight difference since the GT puts down less than 300( 260 - 275 ) rwhp and the GTO puts down around 340rwhp( mine 342 bone stock ). Forget the numbers I have yet to meet a GT owner here that can beat the GTO stock for stock and they certainly aren't cocky enough to say the GTO has never beat a GT. I would quit reading the magazines to get your facts, or are you just mad because the Cavalier whips the GT. I know there are GT owners that know what the GTO will do( I have a few friends who own them ). The 03/04 Cobras( stock ) can and do whip the GTO( stock ) most of the time but the 06 GT, NO WAY. The GT can't even hang with the 03/04 Cobra stock for stock so you know you can't beat the GTO stock for stock.
