I have never noticed a difference myself on mileage, i have a friend who has a 1995 eclipse gst upgraded turbo, and I can take him off the line but when the turbo spools he stays right with me, I would say run him and see what happens, then if you lose you can go from there and add some parts and run him again.

If you are running stock timing and stock compression than its useless to run anything above 87 octane. But running higher octane will allow you to advance your timing more so it will benefit you than.

The octane rating shouldn't really matter w/ gas mileage as much. It's more in the gearing of the rear end, tranny, and how you drive it.

Look at it like this...LS1 cars get better MPG and run premium. The manual is also a 6 speed......

RACE HIM ON THE HIGHWAY,

tell him up to 100, that way you can get the most of your torque.

If you know what you're doing, it's hard to mess anything up when adjusting your timing. It's REALLY easy to do. There's a step by step guide in the Tech sticky at the top of this forum. Just print out that guide and show it to your dad. Then he will see how easy and safe it is. Just don't go overboard with the timing.

It's the other way around. you get the most of your torque off the line, the eclipse's strong point is on the highway b/c they have no low end TQ and dont launch for crap...
