Your right Tommy. Go into the 5.0 section, you will see cam threads all the time, many asking "what cam has the most lope". In other words the guy wants to put a big cam in his car just for the sound, he might have other mods planned but wants to go about modding his car assbackwards just so it sounds cool.
People really do that?[&:] I'll bet they don't look so cool being left way behind on the dragstrip waiting for their otherwise stock car to reach 4000 rpms or so, below which it runs worse than stock. With my stock gears and converter (watching my tach needle is like watching a chess match
) a cam is just about the last I will do to my car, if ever.

many don't grab the concept because unlike the LS1 adding a cam to a 5.0 will practically do nothing at all, even with all the bolt-ons the gains are extremely minimal. a cam only LS1 wil practically see the same increase in power as a full H/C/I kit on a 302.
In my latest issue of GM High Tech Performance, they put a stock (except for the intake manifold, swapped out the LS1 for the LS6) LS1 motor on an engine dyno and put in a big cam, 239/242 .649/.609 111 LSA. The peak hp went up by 82 (!) but the gains over the stocker didn't start until 4400 rpms (the shop owner said it works beter than the stock cam at 3000 but the charts said otherwise). It wouldn't work too well in an otherwise stock car because of the relatively long journey from idle to 4400. My stockish car rarely even goes above 3000 on a daily basis. A 4400 rpm torque converter (for an auto) and 4.10 gears, however, would make the wait much shorter and therefore the cam swap would make sense to do.
BTW, they then swapped the heads and picked up another 48 hp.

i was unsure of the year b/c i dont know anything about those cars, i just asked him what he had done to it after we raced. I found out later today it was a 95. As for what i have done, stock gears(3.08s), edelbrock performer intake, 24# injectors, 70mm tb, underdrives, ac delete, bypassed smog pump, and 80mm pro-m meter wih pro-m filter. so forwhat little i have done i think i hung pretty well.
that's a very odd mod list right there, you might as well have been stock.... get some heads and a matching cam, you especially need to work on that exhaust! ...then you'll be in bid-ness [sm=smiley20.gif]
yah i forgot i have an off road h pipe and flowmasters too, i have shorties sitting behind my seat just havent thrown them on yet. i went 14.1 at 99.35mph before the underdrives, ac delete and smog delete. it sucks tho because i know i could have gotten into the 13s but my t5 is tired and doesnt like second gear so you have to hold it back till it falls into gear and thats takes some time. also couldnt launch to good with ****ty cooper cobra tires haha. but excuses are lame and i hate hearing them so i just suck it up and eal with it.
