I believe that the twin-turbo came out in 1991. I had a friend in college who's dad owned a Mazda dealership. We used to drive it everywhere.

I believe that it had 285 HP. That little thing was a rocket ship. Rode rough as hell though.

LOL Ducks you can kill any freaking rx7 ..
You guys really need to learn to stop say "ANY" or "ALL" of a certain car, and do some research, there are twin turbo RX-7's out there, that when built right are very very fast. If it's a n/a car than you will blow him away, but remember there is always some sneaky sleeper out there waiting to take your money

Hey 2000si how does a rotary engine work anyhow?
I could sit here and type it all out, but I'd have to do my own research so it'd be 100% accurate... and I have to get ready for work in a few too...

i'll do it again. 93-96 rx-7 twinturbo 1.3L 13B rotary engine. 255 hp 13.8 1/4 mi. with a turbo back the car will run low 13's and with a boost controller could touch 12's. the mazdaspeed protege is gay. it WILL however outhandle nearly every car on the road. it pulls numbers very similar to porsche 911's.

the enginge in an rx-7 is rotary type. it uses 2 rotors that displace 748ccx2 per revolution. there is an int. port above the exhaust port. it utilizes 2 spark plugs per rotor per revolution. the frist ignites the mixture and the second finishes it off. the engine spins the same direction as the driveshaft, making it easier to transfer power. the third gen weighs around 2777 pounds. make no mistake, mildly built rotarys CAN take out stock 03 cobras. plus, the engine has no redline and can ingest massive amounts of nitrous since there is virtualy no "cylinder" pressure.

not only are the RX-7s fast there are special R editions that blow the regular twin-turbo off the road. most people think it is just the same as the twin-turbo with different badging, but the r1 and r2 were out of the ballpark in handling. with anexhaust and tubular manifold that can equal around 300 rwhp and if tuned properly they can be revved to well over 10000 rpms. it is just sick. also never try to take a mazdaspeed protege in autocross, the handling is insane.

i just stating that because a car is not quick in 1/4 mile does not mean it is crappy across the board. give me all around performance any day.
