RX-7?
Sorry to come in so late but I just saw this post and thought that a few things should be cleared up. The Mazda RX-7 3rd generation was called the "FD" body and built from 1993 through 1995(although they only made a few thousand in 1995). It housed a 13B rotary engine (1.3L) producing 255.1 HP @6500rpm and 159.9 ft lbs @5000rpm and weighed in at 2694 pounds. The stock twin turbos are sequential.
In stock trim, they ran 4.9 sec 0-60, 13.5 in the 1/4 and hit a top speed of 156mph.
Like with any race, it depends if the car has been modified. With very little tweaking, these cars can produce well over 300 rwhp (typically for less than $1000). Some of the simple mods can be:
intake, exhaust (all pipes) , power commander, ecu swap and taking the turbo's off sequential setup. With minimal mods, these cars are low/mid 12 sec 1/4. With a single turbo swap, most are mid 11 sec cars.
edited: The "R" desigantion given to VERY FEW of the 1993-1995 RX-7's are serious corner carvers. These cars went through weight reduction and insane suspension tweaks. You ~could~ even order them w/o AC from the factory. It had bare bones interior, no leather, minimal stereo, no sunroof and a suspension so stiff that your kidneys would hurt after a short ride. The upside is an incredible skidpad number with well over 1G.

you are forgetting the extremely rare 20b three-rotor rx-7s. twin-turbo, 380 something hp and 240 something ft-lbs of torque. i have only seen three, one red, one black and one blue. they can run 11s on street tires if you can find one. also people take the mid-90s mazda cosmo engine and drop them into 1st-gen. rx-7s and run 10s on DRs. i think you can even get a rotar4 crate motor directly from japan. 4 rotors, 450 hp and 320 ft lbs of torque.
EDUMACATION! http://auto.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine1.htm
Well, I know alot about how the rotary engines work, but not sure on the the specs of how much boost the rx7 engine can put out with just a boost controller. I do know manual boost controllers can be made for that car for $25 (around $12 each)

Rotary engines can take boost all the way up untill the apex seals blow out. No rods or pistons to knock holes in things. Some have been impressive but they are rare. I wonder if he ever did race the kid...
Damn, I never realized how uneducated you mustang guys are. RX-7's are slow? I've seen a stock one put down a 13.1 on street tires. No a stock one shouldn't hang with an 03/04 Cobra, but most 3rd Gen RX-7s are also 10 to 12 years old. Modded Fd's with stock twins can run low 11's with 400 rwhp, and single turbo builds can yield over 500 hp. That's 384.61 hp per liter, what mustang can do that? Also the few and far between 20b RX-7's I have heard about make over 700 rwhp. If the guy has an exhaust and a downpipe, he should NOT be able to take a 03/04 Cobra. Add an intake, turn up the boost a couple pounds, and different story. I own a 93 Mazda RX-7 which is TT now making a little over 275 rwhp. I hope for it soon to become a 450 rwhp monster. It would take a 600 rwhp Aspen Cobra to keep up with that on the track, and on the street, well no chance at higher speeds.

but as soon as he gets back its on...
