Welcome to the boards. The bottom line is that you DID start this thread to start an argument, don't lie. The Ford GT may not be worth it to you since its only a little bit faster (in every way). However, the GT was made as a limited run production car whereas the z06 is readily available. The GT will keep going up in value and the vette will keep going down. Now don't take me wrong, I would take a Z06 anyday, and I believe it is a great car for the money. I mean that thing also has unlimited potential. They are both nice cars and were intended for different purposes and aren't even in the same class. Lets leave it at that.

Ford did a good job on the GT they gave it a strong engine with a lot of potential, good suspension, an exotic look, and a killer sound. I have only seen one GT in person EVER. Though I have seen atleast ten of the new vettes..three of them I know were Z06 not the C6. Im still pissed off at Ford because they ruined the GT500. THAT car was supposed to compete with the vette and they slaughtered it. Sure give it 500hp..which some of them dont even make that, with horrible suspension and weight. It looks nice but it doesnt have the performance. They should of made it so the 1/4 times beat the C6 and atleast kept up with the Z06. I dont know what Ford was thinking when they made it, I think they ruined the GT500 name.

Look at the Mustang, Yes it is also a bang for the buck when you consider a M3 ($55K), Porsche Boxter ($55K) allthough these two cars would handle better than a Mustang GT, the acceleration difference is marginal.
You also have ot consider that 90% of racing done by the consumer is in a straight line. There is no denying this, streetfire.net wouldnt exist if people didnt have cars, cameras, grudges and a couple miles of straight road or a local cruise spot.
Yeah, if everyone lives in Kansas. If you live in the northwest or any area with a mountanous terrain it's a nice feel and a rush taking tight turnsat high speeds that you would'nt feel safe in cars equipped with a average suspention. Remember there is more than acceleration that ppl look for when purchasing a sports car.
You also have to remember that no matter what people like to do with their cars(I like to take my six shooter through the twisties too guy) when it comes time to race, its in a straight line 90% of the time. Either the QM, freeway, back road, school zone, whatever

bottom line is that the GT500 is the fastest production mustang ever.... not too bad. I would personally take an 04 cobra instead, but thats just because I love the new edge styling.

Thats great it still loses to a C6 which is 100hp less than it. No, Ford messed up, take off 500 pounds and it would be decent. Though I have heard they purposely did that so the GT owners wouldnt be like...WTF I PAID 150,000 for this!! And they actually come..detuned from the factory...anyone else hear that?

Joe is in the process of swapping from GT35's to GT42's.
Plus a motor swap from what I've heard.

Why not ask why the 2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti cost what it did. Hell, it's only a 12.8 quarter mile car. Or the 2003 Ferrari 575M Maranello F1. That hunk of junk only pulls a 12.6 in the quarter. The 2005 Porsche 911 GT2 does an 11.7 quarter, but a Z06 should be able to equal or better that. Why pay more than $70k for any of those cars? Why the huge price tag?

If the original poster can not answer the above questions, then there is no way he could understand why the Ford GT cost $150,000. My guess is that he's never even heard of the cars I've listed and has no clue as to what an exotic is.

They paid $150K because it's a limited car and as much as this sounds funny a good investment (99% of the time no car is a good investment). The GT car has an aluminum block while the Shelby is iron (weight savings), This car is built for a COMPLETE performance experience, Mustang is not. If they spent the money on lightening this Shelby with an aluminum block, and built the car to handle like a Vette,GT,Porcshe The sticker on this Shelby would have far exceeded what the normal middle class guy could possibly afford.

They produced a Mustang that runs with a C6 in the straights that is priced about four large less than a base C6and IMO that's all you could ask for in a mucsle car. Fords intention was never to compete against a Zo6 with this Shelby. It amazes me how so many Ford fans are bent out of shape with this new GT500. It really is a great car.
