Bye bye 05!

The Saleen is fairly quiet, but you can hear it if you listen. The Vortech whistles fairly noticeably but does NOT "whine". The "whine" made famous by cars like the 03-04 cobra is a product of heavy duty twin screw blowers like produced by Kenne Bell and Whipple, but is a side effect of all blowers of the kind.

You are correct, on the 05 the only sound you'll get from the vortech is an indescribable noise just before the engine blows up.....[&o]

all thoe 05+'s i've watched get tuned on the dyno at excessive whined with KBs and/or saleens.

The Saleen blower is definitely the most quiet of the blower setups on the S197s. Of course, I've not heard how they sound at higher boost levels. The KBs and Whipples are screamers for sure......as are many of the centri blowers. But if you raced against a Saleen s/c'd S197 in a s/c car of your own........I highly doubt you would be able to hear the other guy's blower very well. A friend of mine with a vortech'd 98 GT told me, after we'd raced, that he couldn't hear my blower hardly at all during our run......his own blower whine blocking out my quieter s/c.

also, i said in my original story that the guy whizzed past me first while i was just cruising. i was giving it hardly any gas. so yeah, i definitely HEARD the whine. i know the difference between a twin screw sound and a centrifugal sounding blower. when we were stopped at the light, you couldn't hear anything, when he came by me, i heard it. of course i didn't hear his blower over my exhaust when we were actually going at it though.

I guess my point was that my Saleen doesn't make hard any audible noise until I'm at WOT. So unless the guy was WOT when he passed you the first time, I doubt he had a Saleen s/c. Not that it makes any difference in the grand scheme of things of course..........you still won
. I was just jumping into the whole debate about what kind of blower the guy in the 05might have had.
Is your vortech really that quiet? The vortech on my bud's 98 GT doesn't "scream".......but I can definitely hear it when he gets on it. Maybe it has to do the trim set he is running...........dunno.
