I don't think the gap is as big as some people are making it out to be. My best run when bone stock was 13.52, with an airbox lid was 13.38, and full exhaust = 13.16. I didn't get the time in my sig until I got sticky tires and colder weather.
Of course my configuration (stock-stalled auto, 2.73 gears) is the slowest for the LS1. The SS auto has 3.23 gears standard and the 6-speeds have 3.42s, along with less drivetrain loss. A manual can hit 13 flat on a regular basis; just ask S8ER01Z
Last AprilI ran a 97-ish (same body style anyway) Cobra vert and beat him by exactly 1 second, 13.26 @ 107 to his 14.26 @ 99. I did not yet have the Nittos.
ouch, maybe the cobra you ran was from 94-95? those were the 5.0 ones and were slower, but i could see a 96-98 cobra running in the 14's with a not so great driver i guess too

the first 4v's werent much faster than the GT's, they had higher numbers, but not enough area under the hp curve. I heard they spike in power, which makes the performance hurt somewhat.

ah i think that's more of a myth, from timeslips i've seen, 96-98 and 99-01 cobras vary by within a few tenths of a second. not saying i'm 100% right but that's atleast what i've noticed by what i've read/saw

The old LS1 will win, big time. Don't mess with LS1's without a Power adder (Supercharger or NOS).

now that may be a little far saying a power adder is needed for a 4v to beat a LS1, even a 2v can do it N/A

Yep, when I was even more slightly modded (crappy tires, no headers) a bolt-on 2 valve gave me a pretty good beatdown; I posted about it it in here. Now I'm about even with him.
And yeah, the Cobra I walked all over could have been a 94-95 I suppose, I can't tell the difference.

yeah, the main way to tell the 94/95 from 96-98 is the taillights, 94/95 are horizontal, 96-98 are old school vertical. other than that i don't think you can tell em apart by the exterior.

94-95 Cobra hoods are the same as the GT's too and they don't say cobra on the rear bumper either.
