^yeup. Im already on the case ace.
I am running mid 13's right now.
I have NOTHING done to the motor/HP adders etc.
all I have is 4.30's- LC Arms-BFG D/R's (315/35/17s) in the rear - and I went a little smaller then stock in the front... went with 235/45/17s
weight reduction is just basic right now- spare tire, alum. lc arms, and going with K member and other stuff.
I am auto tranny... and going with a 2400 stall. which should take me to low 13's

I am out running a 2001 TransAm at the track I go to, hes running 13.8-13.9s

My COMPLAINT was like say fro ma roll on the highway/roll on the street....
they have an advantage over me even if they are stock they are right close with a FULL BOLT On GT.
and on a highway run they take me...
the transam on the highway from a 40 roll takes me after about 80ish or so.
but 1/4 mile I am faster.

so my complaint was I just wanted to win in 1/4 mile and be able to go out on the freeway and still romp them.
I WILL WORK ON it.

1/4 mile I am not worried about... I think i can win over many F-Bod's there.
the kid in MM&FF mag who got 4th place... only has 289rwhp and 194rwt and hes running low 12's and i mean LOW (12.1-12.2 all day)

Thanks for the input.

Joey, Im kinda on both sides of the fence on this one. I agree with you about the hood scoops, and engine size. The scoop looks good, but i agree it needs to be functional. I also agree that the displacement puts the mustang at a disadvantage. but think of it like this; How long has chevy been working/tweaking out the pushrod 5.7l (350ci). FOREVER! before the 350's demise, obviously they made their best 350 yet. (LS1) For started out with the Modular 4.6 in the early/mid 90's. That around 15 years. That seems like alot of time, but thats not close to half the time that chevy has been designing the 5.7L. The 4.6L is getting better with each and every model. Just like this. IT HAS COME ALONG WAY SINCE 96!!!!!!!!!!! If the 4.6l stays alive, it WILL get closer and closer to the LS1 standard. Its still a baby compared to the 350, just give it some time and it will come around.

The new 3v 4.6's are pretty damn good with mods from what ive heard! and we all know how the 4v's are!

ZW, the LS1 is not a 350, it shares nothing with any of the older small blocks. GM calls the LS1 a Gen.III motor and it was the start of a whole new series of engines for GM including the 5.3,and the 6.0 as well as the LS7.

The LS1 is closer to Pontiac engines than it is Chevy, the cylinder banks are offset like a Pontiac, it has 10 head bolts per head, there is a valley pan under the intake, the list goes on. Its like GM took everything it has learned since it started building pushrod V8's way back in the 50's, and applied it with some new school street racer bits to make an exceptional engine.

I could get into the whole Pontiac vs Chevy thing, but 1: you guys dont care, 2: it doesnt really matter 3: I am happy owning both, and a few fords.

The Mod motors Ford has arent exactly down on development, Ford has been building engines for a long time. They tend to stick with a known combination far beyond its useful limit. Ie Flathead, Windsor, 300 I6. They werent built to have massive amounts of power, Ford wants smooth, Ford wants driveability, Ford wants to meet CAFE standards, Ford wants to keep up with Europe. The 4.6 is what they wanted, maybe it isnt what YOU wanted, but you bought one anyway right?

There is potential there, and a healthy bottom end, interchangeability is something Ford hasnt ever really gotten right. You have to know what you are doing when mixing and matching older Ford stuff. The Mod's are alot easier to swap stuff around, ie heads, intakes, cams, shortblocks, etc. That was another part of the impetus for the 4.6, making it so you dont have to keep 5 or 6 different rods and cams instock when building cars and engines.

When it comes down to it, the vast majority of people want a reliable car that doesnt eat alot of gas, looks somewhat decent, is easy to get in and out of, and doesnt cost an arm and a leg to buy, own or repair. Most Hotrods dont fall into that category, they need work, they are for people who ENJOY working on a car, people who want to change things and see what happens. Most people dont, so the Auto manufactures dont cater to us, the hotrodders, they build cars that will fit everyone, or at least come close to it.

you are right about the 96-04 gt, it is sad that bolt-ons alone can't really make it faster than a stock LS1
Not true, I have been beaten by at least one bolt-on GT. He launched like a bastard and I couldn't catch him, though I did have a higher trap speed.

^Yeah I figure off the launch and even the 1/4 mile times a BOLT on GT can handle its own.
however say like HIGHWAY racing... ls1 is just to mean. [:'(]

and wow, I see- a ls1 is a 346 eh? nice. never knew that.

I hate when people compare my Mustang to a Z28 or a Corvette, they are not in the same family, Z28's should be compared to Cobras, and the new Cobras are faster.

I mean a new Mustang costs around 26, the new Camaros I think costed around 34. That gives you over 5000 to get your Mustang as fast or faster than a Camaro. Dollar for dollar Mustangs or Cobras are better priced for the power.

The Camaros came in a wide array of trim levels but they all had the same powertrain. You could easily drop $34k on a fully loaded Super Sport and get the same performance as my ~$23k stripped down Z28. If you want bang for the buck, you don't pay for big (and heavy) shiny wheels, power options, and a cool hood. You have to look at the cheapest trim level that still has the desired power. $23k is probably comparable to a basic Mustang GT of the same year, but there is a big performance gap.

On the highway, the LS1 is nothing an 03 Cobra can't handle with ease.
And I must admit, before I bought my car I thought it was a 350 also.[&o] I didn't really start learning about it until I already had it.
