Default Nice run with an M3

I was driving my STI home from work today and I look in my rear view mirror and see a BMW right behind me. We were on the highway and we were both in the left hand lane. I got over and as it went by I saw it was a new M5. The passanger gave me the biggest **** eating grin as the went by - gorgeous car - dark blue. There was no way I was messing with that (where's my Z06 when I need it)!

So the M5 gets off at the next exit and a few more miles down the road I see another BMW right behind me. For a split second I thought it was the same M5 again, but then I noticed the rag top. I'm lousy with BMW's, so I had no idea what it was. The dude was right on my ***, but there was someone in front of me. So I put my blinker on and passed the guy in front of me on the right. The BMW was right with me, so I knew he wanted to play. I got back into the left lane and slowed to 65 mph. He got right on my *** and I knew it was go time. I downshifted into 4th and nailed it. Held it to my shift point and banged 5th. The BMW was right with me. I maxed 5th and went to 6th and I had *maybe* increased my starting distance by 3/4 of a car. - if that We had to be doing 140. At that point, we ran into slower moving traffic (not hard to do when you are flying like that) and we slowed back down to 70. As I got off my exit, he did the flyby, but I saw the M3 badge on the back.

My car is no beast on the highway, but it handled the M Coupe a few weeks back much better than this M3. The M3 moves out really well on the highway. I was impressed. Obviously I know nothing about the other guy's car. I was hoping he was getting off the same exit so we could talk, but no luck. [X(]

^^^ lol.. I wouldn't feelbad Bickety.. The new, and somebody with more bimmer knowledge than I correct me here, but I believe it's the E-46 in the M3's has a kick-*** top end.. Not so good from a dig, but from a roll they're pretty damn quick.. Besides, you still won right? LOL Can't be THAT much of a downer..

Well, I wouldn't consider it a race, since I started in front of him. It was more of a "run". It did impress me though.

Thanks I drive 120 highway miles to and from work (60 each way), so the majority of my runs are on the highway. I will be visiting the strip this year though, so I should have some real races - or at least time slips.

I am too uncomfortable racing from a dig on public roads. In the Z06, I am in "lose your license " territory by the time I hit 3rd. And if there is a cop within 5 miles of me, I bet he finds me. That's my kind of luck.

^ The E46 refers to the gen of M3. The E46 gen was the '01-06 model years. They're 333hp and I'm pretty sure 262tq. Just fyi, the M3 gens are E30 (1st gen), E36 (2nd gen), E46 (3rd gen), and E92 (current).

Bickety- Nice run, man. Sounds like he had some light mods to keep w/ you like that.....

Ahh.. I had always thought though that the E-series designators were for the engines no? And doesn't the current 335i have something similar to the E46 in it? I remember reading in I believe it was motortrend that the new 335's had 300-ish hp now, and I believe are turbo'd too if I"m not mistaken.. Or perhaps that's an option package for them..

That's what I was thinking. For an AWD car, my STI pulls pretty good at highway speeds and he was right there. It was a nice looking car too. Black FTW!
