Default Speed or handling?

Which do you look for morein a car when you are going to buy one, speed or handling? It's sorta like SRT-4 Neon or S197 GT. The FWD handles better, but the S197 GT out performs it betterin a straight line and has more straight line potential. Similar to that or an S2000 vs Mach 1/LS1 f-body, which would you prefer? (speed or acceleration) Just wondering. You could also post which youlike better and why.

I choosespeed. I can worry about handling after I go fast. I probably won't worry about it though. I don't plan to Autocross the car. Just a few occasional trips to the strip and some street drag races. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "America is all about speed. Hot, nasty, badass speed." And, I agree.

Acceleration, because the public roads aren't meant for me to carve corners so I can practice drifting, where as I can accelerate from a low speed/dig up to whatever I want.

Ideally, I'd want a car to do both well, which is why I like the Corvette so much. But if it's one or the other, I'd go for speed. I'm not voting though

I like speed, I think it is funner to be accelerating quickly and being pushed back in the seat than to be holding on trying not to wreck your car going around a corner while on the edge of traction hoping a deer or car doesn't come.

x2...ultimately on the street you won't find many 'curvy roads' that are even a challenge to a 'decent' handling car... this is where the speed over handling comes in play.

Handling is the higher priority to me. I like a car w/ good handling and at least decent strightline performance though. Or one that has power potential at least. Straightline speed just gets boring too quickly IMO. I never have trouble finding nice roads to do some spirited driving on. I just can't stand having a car that doesn't handle well. But like I said, it still needs good power and potential. I'm gonna get flamed for this, but I don't care- That's why I love the Z so much. It handles great, still goes in straight line pretty well, and is still practical. It strikes that perfect balance for me. A happy median. And of course, the Corvette plays this gig extremely well, too. The Evo and STi aren't half-bad either....

I'm more interested in speed right now but down the line I'll make more handling mods to the little skittle.
