Not trying to stir things up, but I think a lot of people are misunderstanding handling w/ cornering. When it comes down to it, they're not the same. A car that 'handles' well is just describing it's steering, chassis, and feedback, etc qualities. A car does not have to be driven at the limit or even wreckless speeds for those traits to be experienced. It's not automatically referring to the maximum G's a car can obtain. I could easily go out on a backroad or scenic route in my 350Z and have loads of fun, w/out getting carried away and going felony speeds. The car was nicely balanced, had nicely weighted steering, and had lots of driver feedback. Although it doesn't have the cornering prowess of a Lotus Elise, to me, it is a more enjoyable car on the street because it's not as hardcore as the Elise. It doesn't have to be pushed as hard to get enjoyment from it. The Elise will tear it a new on an AutoX course, but it rides like ****, it has really touchy, darty steering, and is just too brash. I'm not sure how many will understand what I'm sying, but I just thought I'd through that out there. A Viper corners better than a 911, but the 911 is the better handling car...

Not misunderstanding anything, I have owned cars that do both, but I stated that for MY purposes, a straight line car is more fun for me, plus I live in the mid-west, there are no curves here.

+1 to both of you. When people think of handling they think of a race car that is gutted out and rides like *** and will tear you apart when you hit a bump. But go ride around in a Vette or a Miata and you don't get tore up. They are fun cars to go out and drive. With the Vette you get speed and damn good handling. Viper's do carve corners like no ones business. Just point them, press thegasand they are there.

I have most of the stuff that you can get for a Mustang and still have it be semi street friendly and it isn't the best thing to take on a long cruise but I love the way that it handles. With the V6 in it it has much better weight distribution than the V8's do. I am thinking about putting an IRS in it for even better weight distribution not to mention it will give it a bit softer of a ride. I don't really want to go all out and get a huge suspension package because I still have to drive the car a considerable amount each day and I think thatI would be hating life if I had a full suspension and DD it.

I live in the Mid-West too, Illinois. There are some fun roads where I live. The road leading up to my house is one of the most fun around. It is nothing but curves for about 3 miles. When I put most of my suspension on I could take the curves a lot faster than i could with the stock suspension. Now the only thing holding me back from really having fun are the ****ty *** tires I have on it.[&o]I think that improving the suspension on any car makes it a lot more fun to drive, even if it is only a mild upgrade.

I choose speed, because I personally can enjoy that more often than handling like others have said. Though the S197 doesn't handle terribly from the factory anyway.

Yeah, I see what you're saying, and I wasn't calling anyone out specifically, I was just saying in general....

i choice speed because every road course is different, so comparing times is kind of pointless.

1320' is 1320'
Thats not entirely true, if my car runs 13s at 6000 feet above sea level does that mean that it's a 13 second car?[8D]
I agree with the people who say a balance is best. I rode in my godfathers bone stock 90 lx the other day it felt like I was riding in a lifted truck, and it handled the same way. Mine is lowered about 1.5" and it makes a huge difference,I would like to get some nice upper and lower control arms front and rear for the car for some better lauches and a little better handling. To be completely honest I will never get tired of being pinned back into the seat while hearing that v8 sing its sweet song at near redline speeds. To me the best car for pure pleasure would have to be the Z06, while its not the best handler in the world and not the fastest in a straight line it would be one hell of a weekend car.

speed personally, and reguardless of what you mean by handling, that fwd doesnt out do the s197 mustang. from the passenger seat at least, those things are *** over bumps and understeer like a typical fwd would. not bad little cars though.
