I hope you guys realize that a C5 and LS1 fbody are dead heat through the 1/4 mile

So the next time a S197 owner thats modded and geared says he beat a camaro or WS6, I want to you same people calling his bluff on that too...

OR

You could realize that under 100mph from a roll a geared/modded S197 should be able to hold it's own against either one
While I see your point/agree I still know what other guys are trapping with the OPs mods and it's not 108+ mph (which means putting a C5 in the optimum gear vs the S197 the C5 "SHOULD" have little issue putting some distance on the S197 from a roll on).. as I said before...not sure what gear the OP started in here...but 60mph is a 2nd gear hit that (and I know I am not alone) I would not take (out of fear) and instead would start in 3rd gear.

Maybe OPs 3rd gear endsearlier?? but at the end of 3rd the C5 would have been past the 100mph mark and I don't see why it wouldn't have been pulling at that speed...hell i would expect a stock C5 to be creeping on me by the 3rd especially from a roll on that starts in 2nd gear... lighter, andmore aerodynamic. I guess I can see the OP hanging briefly but it's hard to ignore how potent a C5 is on the highway even in stock form.
With the 3.55 gears the end of second comes at 62mph.
I beg to differ....well first where are you shifting at 6K rpm? I have 4.10s and a slightly smaller tire and I still hit 60mph at the top of 2nd gear running it about up to 6300-6400rpm. 3.55s should have a lot more room past 60mph than that.

45mph is about the highest speed I will downshift into 2nd, and even then I rev match before I put it into gear.

Meeehh.. I don't know about that broham.. I think you're about 10mph off there.. When I was still getting used to the Mach I made the mistake of trying to do a drop into 2nd gear at about 75 because I wasn't sure exactly how tall the 3:55's would be [&:], and it went without phucking anything up too badly, but I instantly bounced off of the limiter and slowed down about 2-3mph.. So I'd say the top of 2nd with the 3:55's is around 70-ish give or take brudda.. I don't know if that would change any between the mach and an S197, but I figure gears are gears..

All I know is, I drove a 100% bone stock 05 GT and at the redline it was right at 62-63mph.

pulled upside looked like maybe 04-07 vette @ 60 mph dropped into 3rd and we both got on it, l stayed side by side with him all the way thru 3rd when we both shut down - he probably just couldn't drive right?
as embarassing as it sounds that vette (I'm assuming 05-07) beats our infamous GT500 on the quarter mile. If you were side to side with him, I say he probably pulled 2 spark plugs out or something before racing u lol

That sounds about right to me.

04 was the last year of the C5 and 05 was the first year of the C6.

If was a C5 then this story is believable, C6..nah.

My exact thoughts too!

Op, good win! I had similar results the other day with a C5 vert from a dig, and beat him both times. Both with his TC on and with it off. If you look up the stats on them they aren't exactly rockets by any means, but they are fast(unless of course it's a Z06!), C6's is when it becomes a whole different ballgame.

It's been established by many ppl on here that he must have run up against a C5.......And I would'nt be so quick to say that a LS2 C6 beats a GT500 in stock form.....They are botheven on acceleration numbers.....But would give the win to the Vette on handling..

The win goes to the Gt500 on getting easy horspower from modding....As is the case on allblown/turboed cars...

Stock for stock I've seen far better times posted for C6 cars than GT500...of course maybe it's all reflection of driver abilitys (but that would mean more tool bags who can't drive own GT500s than Vettes....that can't be right can it? [8D][8D])

Less power through wider tires (C6) usually makes it easier for most drivers to handle.
