Default Help me please :)

Due to gas prices and money situations in the future, I am seriously considering selling the mach and looking for an SRT-4. I know they are rated a good amount better in mpg than mach's and should have ahell of a lot cheaper insurance than my car(b/c they have 4 doors and an I4, my mach is about $3k a year under my dad). I'll betalking to my insurance company this week and see quotes. Looking up prices and things, I can sell my mach 1 and break even if I buy an SRT-4 with 5k-20k miles(including taxes and registration, etc). I'm not sure if I get the chance if I willdo the switchsoon orwithin a couple months if everything checks out b/c I alreadypaid for insurance on the stang till the end of August.

So please just give me a little rundown of everything. I probably won't do any real performance mods off the bat. I don't car about speed that much anymore, I just want a decently quick car, that looks nice, is good on insurance, gets good gas mileage, and is reliable. Will the SRT-4 meet these standards? (From my research I think so)

PS-Only mod I will probably do is a short throw shifter b/c I have gotten used to it and it makesme able to shiftquicker and is betterin rush hour traffic(which themach has seen).

Thanks ahead for any help you can give me!

EDIT: I forgot to ask how roomy is the trunk and the back seat? Will it fit 4 full size adults?

Coming from a Dodge guy I would hold onto the Mach if ya could, but the SRT4 is a nice little car. I think it suits what you really want.

My cousin has an SRT 4 and gets crap for gas mileage. Its a small tank and requires higher octane which will cost more. He can get around 190 to just over 200 miles to a tank. As for room it's small because it's just really a neon. And for reliabilty he beats the crap out of it and keeps on going with no problems yet.

Yes, but I am also somebody who likes to do the smart things. I have the mach now, but I am saving nearly nothing every month due to insurance and gas expenses on this car. With the SRT-4 I know I will be able to save at least $400-$500/yr in gas and a good amount more of money on insurance. Being able to put that money away for a future house or apartment or furniture for a house/apt.(etc) would be a very smart thing to do. I don't race and the only loss going to the SRT-4 would be a slower car during spirited driving which I barely do any of much anyhow and less attention on the street which I really don't need at 19. I could care less about howfast my car is as long as it's not a slug. SRT-4 seems like a good middle ground and smartdecision(especially if thegas crisis gets worse). This would be a financial andgrown up decision. It's not like I'm selling the mach for avette b/c I need more speed. Understand mypoint of view?

Um...less attention in an SRT4? I don't really think they get that great fuel mileage either. I think its hilarious that you have to bring up that "its a grown up decision". If its really a grown up decision, you would get rid of the Mach and get a Taurus or another sixxer family sedan that only sips fuel instead of guzzles it.

How about an S197 sixxer, used?

From what I have read on the mileage, it's good if you can stay out of boost. My mach doesn't get great mileage even when I shift atlow rpms so a 4 cylinder that weighs about 400lbs+ less has to be a great upgrade in fuel economy. Room isn't that bad then. I've been in someone's neon and it's not that tight for 4 adults.

And on kazper's post:
How could insurance be so high on the neon? It's a 4-door 4 cylinder car(with f/i), but I know it's not insane fast(about stock new edge gt fast). I'll get quotes and see if that's true.

I don't get your point of view because it's not a cheap car. Gas is not cheap for it either. I don't know you so I don't want to sound mean but whats the point of the srt 4 if you don't care about speed or attention which that is all you'll get with everyone trying to race you because of what you drive. It sounds like you're trying to find reasons to buy an Srt 4. Stick with your stang!

I've thought about trading my car in many times but I always come to the same conclusion, its not worth it. I did the math over and over again, I drive about 15k miles a year most if not all in the highway, the only way for me to save a considerable amout of money in gas is by switching to a corolla or something similar. Also, after you drive that srt-4 for a few months you will want to modify, its in a car enthusiast blood. Think about it, dont make quick decisions, do someresearch on the srt-4.Good luck.
