Go ahead, but they won't be. I can tell you that when I was car shopping the SRT4 was more expensive then my 2003 Cobra... and I have 0 wrong with my driving record while living in a low insurance city.. could be different for you - but, the SRT4 was a good 400 per 6 months more expensive then my Cobra, GT and my Mach (from 2005-present).

No disrespect meant to you, but you're a young 19... but so was I.
I don't take any disrespect, I am just hoping the numbers will run good which they should(imo, educated thinking). I only think they were that high b/c of their huge debut there and they were cheap enough for young kids to buy at an msrp under $20k. 4 yrs later they probably sizzled down a bit(they were made with 4 doors and are only 4 cylinders not putting out massive numbers like the evo or sti). I'll find out and post what I find. I really want a solution to this financial problem and the srt-4 should be it. If not I will have to look into roots cobalt SS's and possibly other f/i I4's (GTI, etc).

If you don't like how loud your car is, why not just put the stock exhaust back on? Should draw less attention at least.
That's not the issue, I said I liked my mach even with the loud exhaust which has gotten me many warnings from many different cops to fix it but I need to make a car switch so I can save towards my future life. Standing outless would be a plus since I am 19 and don't need any tickets to raise my insurance.Like I said, I'm looking for a car that's:
-decentlyfast(preferably mid to low 14sec car)
-getsgood(not expecting prius/civic like) mpg
-is good on insurance (anything must be better than my mach 1)
-looks nice (I don't need a head turner)
-and is reliable (which I hear the SRT-4 is very stout)

I know the cobalt ss should fit this category too, but I prefer the srt-4 over the ss and if things work out I plan to be driving an SRT-4 in the future.

Before you brought up the whole "less attention" thing with your car compared to an SRT4....now that doesn't really matter?

How about a GTP?

Correct, less attention doesn't matter but it's a plus.

GTP's aren't fitting in the category. City mpg is aboutthe same as the mach, which I do most of with my car, it weighs 3700lbs~, and it's styling is too close to the grand am. I have no idea whatinsurance would runon them though.

Cobalt SS wouldn't be a bad choice ..I have under 1k in mine and it's deff in the 13's.
Though I'm not really happy with the heaton so I'm working on a turbo build for it.
For the price I would get a SRT-4 though..I like the looks of them and I could use the extra doors.

I'd get a civic or a cobalt (not the Si or the SS)if I was you and call it a day if your worried about gas prices & insurance rates. I'm 41 and I'm still paying $2200 a year to insure my srt-4. Thats a lot of money. Gas milage will be slightly better ina Srt-4 compared to a Mach ONLY if you can control yourself. I cant, and I get about 12 miles to the gallon on my skittle. The SRT-4 draws an insane amount of attention from other sports car drivers as well as the police so plan on getting pulled over alot if you get one. Again I'm 41 and still get pulled over all the time in it. Sometimes just so they can poke a flashlight in the window. When I was 19 I traded cars every 2 years just because I wanted something different. If thats the case then an SRT-4 is a lot of fun. But you'll miss the Mach once it's gone and when you get older you'll say to yourself I should have held onto that car.

Like I said I want a moderately fast car(mid 14's slowest), so an si is out of the question unless I want to drop $1k into it.

Perfect Disguise: When you stay out of boost, what's you city/highway mileage about?

Cacimar: I wish it was that easy, but I need to see what insurance rates are. I know I am capable of keeping my foot out of it and getting the gas mileage that it's rated at, the only problem is to see if it will actually save me money over the mach 1.

Blue Beast: Like I said, I want to have a happy medium. I don't want to drive a slow as ***** car so I can save an extra $300-$1k/yr. I can't be happy saving a lot of moneyifI'mdriving a car thatslow and a car that I can't enjoya little when I want to.That would make me very unhappy even though I am saving alot ofmoney. Insurance is only that high for the SRT-4? Do you have any tickets or anything? I know the mach is under my dad's name(50 yr old with a clean record) and I am paying right at $3k/yr.So if what your saying is true, it looks like I would be savingatleast $600/yr on insurance. I know people say I will miss the mach, Yes and No. Yes b/c the 12sec power it has and theattention from mustang fans/regular people I get withit. No b/c I will have another car in it's place that is noslouch in the speed department and I will be saving up abit for my future.

I can't afford a C6 corvette insurance wise orsticker price wise

Since I can't getinsurancequotes for anything yet, gimme a rundown if youcanthen of the cobalt SS vs SRT-4. Sorta like lower insurance goes to the cobalt ss, better gas mileage goes to the ss b/c it's easier to keep your footout of it, etc.
EDIT: Cobalt I can get the extended warranty for, not sure of the SRT-4 so that can help the cobalt's favor too. I'm gonna get insurance quotes for both and see anyhow. This is what I got so far:
-Interior looks: SS
-Interior comfort: SRT-4 (viper seats)
-Speed: SRT-4
-Reliability: ???? (SS has a warranty that can go to 80k miles I think)
-Exterior looks: Tie (SRT-4 still looks like a neon and SS still looks like a cobalt)
-Insurance: Not sure yet
-MPG: Think the cobalt SS is rated and seems to get ~2mpg better from reviews
-Cool Sound: imo, I like roots sound over turbo when on it (SS)
-Cops/People attention-SRT-4 (i think, expecially if I take the wing off of either car)
-Fits 4 full size adults: SRT-4-yes Cobalt SS-??? (i know the mach 1 couldn't, so no biggie if the car can't hold 4 adults)

Thanks again for the help.

You guys need to switch insurance companies bad! My Mach costs me $479 every 6 months for full coverage. The MazdaSpeed3 I just picked up costs almost the exact same amount (within pennies!). I am 29 with a clean record and go thru USAA.

So Steele, don't expect much insurance saving if you go with a FI car. Like BB said, if you stay out of the boost, you should get great mileage. About the Mach, I never got anywhere near the claimed 17mpg city. It was more like 10mpg on the city. My MS3 is getting about 18mpg city and the SI is +20mpg city. I would give the SI a chance if I were you, it has alot to offer. In fact, if I had to jump in the turbo car or the SI right now and drive across the country, I'd have to take the SI. Its so damn comfy and smooth, not to mention "not slow", especially for a sedan. Insurance is $100 cheaper every 6 months than the Mach or the MS3. Think it through man, drive several cars, even the ones you have doubts about, and do what makes you happy. Personally, I'm loving the gas savings. BTW, I think you could trade straight across for a low-low mileage SRT-4 since your Mach is paid off. Most of the SRT-4s around here are going for $14-18k and are already modded, which will save you money alone, just ask Cacimar...that lucky bastard![8D]
