consistency

I just realized that I didn't have 5sp in my sig....sorry guys. I guess I should elaborate a bit more. Before my 06 I had an 01 5sp, it ran like a train. Anywhere between 14.2 and 14.3 no matter the weather or any other variable. I know the 06 has more power , but not that much..... Off the line I don't hear any tire squeal, I leave at 3000 rpm, shift at 5000, don't powershift, but just can't get any consistency. Like I said its been in the mid 13s to low 14s. I don't want drag radials because I drive the car to the track and would like to drive it home in one piece. Overall, I really like the new Stang except for the lack of consistency on the track. Driver error? Please critisize me, I can take it

S197 mustangs are electronic fly-by-wire throttle meaning some of the lag is inherent to the system and there is ZERO forgivness when you hit redline the motor just quits, no missing like the new edge cars would do. Makes it hard NOT to watch the RPM guage.
Get a hand held if you haven't already, push the revlimiter up and dial out some of the lag then drive it like you stole it like you did on your new edge. When you don't have to watch the Tach but can "feel" when to shift you'll find your times more consistent. Right now you're trying to drive the car by its gauges instead of feel.

That ain't good bracket racing advice. Better hit the shift points dead on each shift every time. The only time you don't look at the tach is on the launch. Bring the car up to launch RMP then look up and stare at the 3rd light. I agree with moving the rev limiter up a bit but its better yet to short shift the car (shift at 4800 instead of 5000) so you not near the rev limiter. So you run a bit slower but its bracket racing.

OMG your not going to break a rear end at your power level with a set of Nitto dr's. I gave you the answer, if you don't want to listen and have your times be all over the map then I can't help you. Have fun.

Nope, low 60 ft actually helps the RT. I don't want to do the DR thing because I have seen too many broken rear ends becasue of them.
As far as keeping the car cool, that doesn't work either. I have won at brackets before and in the classes that I go in, when you get down the the last few cars it becomes NASCAR with how quickly you are back on the track. When elimiations start, I start the car and generally don't turn it off, because you won't have time to cool it down, so I want it running hot. People think that is weird.
I think I might try leaving the line at 2500 to maybe slow some wheelspin that can't be heard. I shift at 5000 and scream the traps in 3rd gear. This would be a new strategy. What do you guys think? Bracket racing isn't about performance, it' s consistency.

I really can't see you hurting the rear, they are not that weak. Plus if you run a Nitto it will spin the tire before it hurts the rear. Launch it at a lower rpm if it really worries you that much. Also I would get LCA's if I were you, they will help keep the rear end planted and reduce wheel hop.
The point of this post I guess is, I was wondering if anybody else was having problems with lack of consistency with a basically stock 197. I guess I should just get of DR and see what happens. Thanx for the advice guys.
i have a 05 gt witha 5spd ive only made about 15 passes with this car my 60ft's are 2.0's 2.1's best et was 13.855 @100.2mph on m/t's streets 275/40/17 oh and 3.55 gear ............anyways how are yoju guys launching are you just bumping it or are you riding it a little i know i can do way better just need practice
