Is it really worth the money to get one with a higher stall at like 3000 or is my automatic ok to race with? I've been told to invest, but I dont wanna spend money on that if I can just get some bolt ons with suspension and good tires and be running faster than most stock 5 speeds and some modded ones. I only have a 1/8 track around here and I wanna run atleast an 8.5. And are gears a necessity for racing?

a TC and gears will likely hurt your fuel mileage, but both would make a HUGE difference in your cars numbers..at least they did for mine. i had a 3300, and now i have a 4000..what is stock in yours? like 2500?

your engine makes its most power in a certain rpm range, or powerband. lets say that it is 3000-6000. if you launch at 2000, youre not at peak power until you reach 3000 rpm, so launching with a high stall TC, at say 3000 rpm, puts you in your engines peak range.

If you are wanting to run 8.5's on the 1/8 you really need both. Yep, gas mileage goes away some but all things have a price.........
