auto camaro's are just as fast as manual ones, not that it would make a difference in this situation. Id say the camaro will win. I believe the camaro has 20 more HP and not that much heavier.
The 2000 Camaro z28 is rated at 305hp, so that would only give it five more horsepower than the 05 gt

No, the gears are the same.

And some of you need to stop magazine racing.

And for the guy who said that 05 V6 mustangs are quick, has never been in a "quick" car.
Actually, ive been in quite a few quick including my buddies Cobra which runs 11.5 in the quarter and we also have a family owned 9 second Nova with a 468, which will be running 7's by sometime next year after we put in a bigger motor and run a 3 stage nitrous setup, before you jump off and say someone doesnt kno what quick is, you better get some background first, now i dont know about you, but most people would consider the 05 v6 mustang pretty quick compared to all the other v6 mustangs and for what they are, maybe your the one who doesnt know what quick is, just because something is slower than what your driving doesnt mean its not quick for what it is

True the ratings are close but it has been proven that GM underrated the LS1. More often than not they put put 300+ to the wheels. Besides looking at the peak rated hp, you also need to consider power under the curve and torque. I'll take the car that makes 300hp from 3-6500 rpm over the one that makes 325 from 5-6000 rpm anyday. One last thing, not to defend SilverBullet, but you gotta understand that alot the guys who have been here awhile see new members coming in all the and spouting off test data without much real world experiance. There are a ton of younger members here, and it's great that they are choosing a V8 rear wheel drive car over some 4 cyl. FWD, but somtimes they come in swinging great big e-dicks with out really knowing what they are saying. 9 out 10 times it's just cause they are young and excited about thier car. So don't take his comments too personal.

Yea, i understand what your saying, i just dont like people underestimating my knowledge just because im a bit younger, im not new to the whole racing scene, ive been around cars and drag racing all of my life, it runs in the family, i mean the 05 v6 is pretty quick for what it is considering its a v6 and its better than the older ones, ive even seen one beat a 95 5.0 5spd, im not new to speed, the last car i owned was a Turbocharged 12 second Rx-7 on street tires, it woulda ran 11's on slicks but the rear end wouldn't have been able to handle it, the car was pushing 400-450 at the wheels

Noooot quite. All else being equal, a well-driven (key point) 6-speed LS1 f-body will be a few tenths quicker. Steeper gears and less drivetrain loss.
BTW, my stock time was 13.5 and my LS1 is considered by many in the f-body community to be "special," in a short yellow bus kinda way. Do the manual '05 Stangs typically run faster than that?

Last summer in Charleston, I met up with a new 05 GT in my 98 Formula, auto 2.73's. Well anyway, messing around in traffic he didnt have enough. From the sound of it he had an auto. We would go from a slow roll and I walked him every time, then he would do a fly by when I let off. Maybe he was clueless how to drive it, maybe not.

I will second that most LS1's put down 300whp or very near that stone stock. The lowest I saw was a friends 98 Z, it did 292 and yeah he was the slow guy in the group.

I thought the SS had tighter suspension over the z28?
and higher gears

I was just in FL and rented one of those. OMG! I couldn't believe how slow it was. On the highway it wasn't too bad, but leaving a stop light it couldn't get out of it's own way.

So no...They're not fast, not quick, not even remotely peppy.

I'm not trying to down your kill, but the driver of that Mustang must not have been that great of a driver considering the 98's formulas were puttin down times of 13.8s and for you to walk away from him sounds kinda odd, if it were a trans am it would be more believeable that you could have walked away, i would have thought it would have been a much closer race but if thats what happened good kill, sometimes people just suck at driving, such as the time my friend beat an auto 98 trans am with his 96 pretty much bone stock mustang gt with the exception of flowmaster 40s and bbk x-pipe. i have one friend who had a 350z for one day and it was auto, he sucked at driving, in fact he only beat a 05 v6 mustang by car length or two but the driver of the mustang was a hell of a good driver
