In Cali, double the speed limit is wreckless driving, and you go to jail. License suspension, and a buttload of fines. Either way, he's screwed.

 

yea I know a cop who said one time he didnt even bother trying to catch this guy doing 150 past him, b/c as you said he knew he would never be able to catch up to him. He would have had to turn around something or something like that I forgot what he said, then he wouldve been able to start the pursuit but he knew theres no way he woulda caught up to him.

 

sorta reminds me of my friend, he had a 93 rx7 twin turbo and he was doing 165mph when a officer standing outside of his vehicle clocked him, and the officer actually thought he could run to his squad car and catch him, but he didnt stand much of a chance, and plus it was at night, so he made out pretty easy, he had a good point though, at 165mph, they cant read your liscence plate and it mite be hard for them to distinguish the vehicle

 

wrong abou cali....my brother got pulled over for doing 110 in a 50 and the cop just gave him a ticket. he had to pay 300 bucks and his license was restricted ..not suspended....for three months. He could only drive to and from work and school. oh yea and my uncle is a cop in L.A. and he said that they wouldnt take ya to jail.

 

in GA if you are speeding 30+ over you could have your lisence suspended.

WTF?? this kid is 17 doing 145 and has only had the car 1 month... damn i thought i was bad doing 26 over when i lost my lisence...
the fastest ive gone is 85-90 in a 70 on the interstate. it really sucks but it teaches you a lesson and it worked for me.

 

yeah he shoulda tryed to run from him but then again sometimes they set up radar and have another squad car like 1/2 mile up the road so he would just have to radio ahead..

 

It is really really dumb to speed that much on the beltway. If he had been clocked, I'd say that he has a very good chance of losing his license. If it was in VA, he DEFINITELY could go to jail. You can go to jail for a reckless ticket here.

Since he wasn't clocked though, I bet a good lawyer would be able to get it reduced drastically, since the cop can only muse as to what his speed was. In your friend's case though, I think it would be a good idea to do two things: spend some money on a good lawyer and slow the **** down from now on.

 

My guess is he'll get exactly what he deserves.

Personally I hope your retarded friend gets punished to full extent of the law. I don't like the idea of people that retarded being on public road-ways. If you want to be an idiot and kill yourself in your car, go drive yourself into a tree in the middle of nowhere, not where innocent people are going to be at risk. I know he is your friend, but seriously people like that **** me off. Yeah okay everybody speeds a little bit on freeways, but 140MPH is just plain retardation. It's dip-***** like your friend that give young drivers with nice cars bad reps. I'm glad your friend cares so little about other people that he was willing to put the lives of innocent people in very serious immediate danger for some cheap thrills. If I was the judge giving him his sentence, I would have his car impounded, he'd be getting the longest sentence available, and he wouldn't be driving for as long I could prevent him.

number 2, if he was doing 140+ on 495 then he is a f*cking idiot! normally i see 90 but that is what traffic is doing, i dont care how many cars or what time, i know the road, and i know if you were doing 140 on it you need to be shot.
