2.81 Pulley is installed!
As many of you know I have been anxiously awaiting my 2.81 s/c pulley and puller tool. I have just finished the install. It did not go as smoothly as I hoped it would. I will explain so that maybe some people will benefit from my experience.
My first attempt to pull the s/c pulley failed miserably. I tried to use a 3 jaw gear puller and bent the lip of my stock pulley. I then ordered a puller from pulley boys and sat back and waited for 5 grueling days for it to arrive.
I pulled the stock s/c pulley off with the pulley boys puller. It worked very well and it was fairly easy. You will hear a loud pop when the puller breaks the pulley free and then you are home free!
I changed the puller into the presser and began to press my 2.81 pulley onto the s/c shaft. All was going well and I had the pulley 2/3 of the way pressed on, then out of no where, the threads inside the s/c shaft strip out and the pulley presser is now useless.
At this point I am very frustrated so I come inside and put up a post here on the forum asking for help in my situation.
I ended up knocking the pulley the rest of the way on with a block of wood and a 6lb. hammer. I do not suggest anyone try that unless it is your last result. I installed the smaller belt and put a diablo pulley tune in the car.
Everything turned out ok in the end. The pulley is on right and the car is now screaming and pulling like a raped ape! I cannot believe the difference the pulley made. I am getting a dyno tune next week. I will post the results.
Thanks to everyone here on the forum for your help during my time of need.

RE: 2.81 Pulley is installed!
Nice!
Did you go nice and slow while using the pulley puller?
I had absolutely no problems with my pulley swap, I showed my GF what she had to do and handed her the wrench and all went smooth!
I'd HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a heat exchanger. That shorter pulley will create INCREDIBLE amounts of heat, which will be extremely hard on your engine, regardless if it's forged or not.

Yes, I went very slow and steady with the puller. The threads inside the s/c shaft just pulled out! I am going to get a fluidyne heat exchanger. Under normal driving conditions will the s/c still put out all that heat or just when I am getting on it hard? How hard is it to install a heat exchanger? What kind of fluid goes in it? Does anything hav eto modified on the car to accomodate the fluidyne heat exchanger?

The only HE I'm familiar with is the Afco, because I have one sitting in my basement. It's pretty damn simple.
Driving it during normal operation is fine, some quick spurts through gears @ full boost is okay.
Many of the engine failures you see with our motors is from people doing pulley swaps & not performing the proper cooling modifications.

Does the afco require any modifications to the car? does it require any parts that do not come with it? What about the fluid reservoir tank? Is the stock tank big enough?

I have an LFP heat exchanger. It took me a day to do since ive never done it before. I takes a while just some hard to reach spaces. Most people go with the afco, lfp or gords heat exchanger.

I think I will go with the afco pro. It says it does not require any modifications on the car. It is also 28 inches long and it covers the entire space behind the hole in the front bumper. Looks pretty cool. What kind of fluid goes in the things???
