Default Intake and Exhaust

Just ordered my first parts for the car. I had Magnaflow on my GT, and really liked them. I also had a pro-chamber, but can't do a mid-pipe yet because of warranty issues. I hope the cat-back sounds good with the stock H-pipe.

I also ordered a K&N FIPK. I had a Densecharger on my 01. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Densecharger, but my dealer said that changing the intake could cause some leaning issues, thus affecting my warranty. With the K&N, it will make the swap back to stock a lot quicker. If not for that I would have gone with the DC in a split second.

The Densecharger dynoed the best, but the K&N was a close second.

According to some dyno numbers that I have seen, just this combo puts a lot of people at or very near 400 RWHP with nearly an equal amount of TQ.

In the future, a pulley with tune should get me to that 450/450 mark. If I ever go that route, I will definitely have the car dyno tuned and post some numbers.

Todd.

todd, to get 450rwhp, you will need long tubes.

Look at these two dyno charts. They did not have Long Tubes. The lowest number did not even have a mid-pipe. They had just done cat-back, CAI,pulley, and a tune.

I have seen a lot more of those charts. There are also quite a bit of dyno graphs at or around the 470 RWHP mark that dont have long tubes. They were using a ported Eaton with the above mentioned mods which can be done for around $500.

I am not trying to dispute anything you say. But I have seen to many posts with graphs that show otherwise. (unless they are lying).

But I respect your opinion.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

Hey Nomo,

I just talked with two people in my area with 03 Cobras, and one guy switched to long tubes and only gained 5 hp. This was on a pulleyed car with X pipe and catback. He lost some torque though. [:@]

The tuner attributed it to a loss of boost from the headers. The guy has since changed them back.

The other has put down 475/497 RWHP/TQ at the Team Ford Dyno in GA. This was with a 2.85 pulley, Cat-back, Bassani X pipe, and custom tune. His baseline dyno was 382 RWHP.

I know in last months MMFF, they also ran a stock 03 and got ~380 to the wheels.

I know LT's sound awesome, but wonder if there is justification for the work involved.

Todd,

I just bought a 04 Cobra also, and am trying to learn as much as possible about the best and most effective first mods.

Have you stettled on the Magnaflows or are you still considering Borlas?

BTW, just sent you email

Dave

I also just bought a 2004 cobra, but talked with a guy i know who has 600 rwhp with an cold air intake, no cats, magnaflow and bored out his blower. He put headers on his car and lost 10 hp... he was pissed, so he took them off went back to the dyno and was back to normal.
I would also like to get in on some of the parts performance for the cobra, i had a 2002 gt until last weds. Curious about people and warranty issues by putting anything on this car, i have heard a lot of people drop full warranty with just an intake. This wont be a problem in the future once the car is set i wont care, but for the first few thousand miles, i want to make sure nothing goes to the ****ter.

I just found a dealer that is mod friendly. He said that as long as the mod did not contribute to the problem, they would take care of it.

He even knows about my pulley swap and tune.

As for the headers, I have heard varying reports. A lot of people say that headers don't need to be used on this car, but after doing some research I have found that if you have the money to go for it.

The reason that your friend lost HP was probably due to less retriction which = less backpressure. With less backpressure, the Eaton does not produce as much boost. That could have been where it went. I have heard of some with a ported blower who then added an aftermarket TB/Plenum and re-gained what they lost + some.

I now believe the way to go with these cars are to make as much power with as little boost as possible so it will last.

Congrat's on your purchase.
