i have an 03 mustang cobra and im looking to buy exhaust for it. now i eventually wanna get a full exhaust system for it but should i get the cat backs or go with an x or h pipe first?? i haven't figured out which one i should get

 

I would go with a catback first then mid pipe.

 

well will you have to pass emissions? the H pipe will be louder and it will be even louder w/out the cats

i went with the cat back first, then got the mid pipe a mothe or 2 later.

 

the h pipe wont necesarily be louder just have a deeper muscular sound not as smooth as the x pipe.

 

the x pipe is really raspy imo

 

i love my set up, but thats just me. I did kit then mid pipe

 

X pipe is defenitely louder and very raspy

H pipe is more tone and less brash, deeper growl but not as in-your-face

I would put the cats on your car simply because if you constantly run straight pipes you'll burn valves.
Throw the pipe on after all is said and done. H pipe or X is really all about preferance, I cant think of any mechanical/performance advantages or disadvantages between the two.

Currently, I have an H pipe on my cobra with flowmaster Delta 40's.. but I'm not really digging the setup.
