Default Machining my heads

Ok so I happen to work at a CNC mill and machine shop and Ihave fullaccess to about $300 k in CNC's including 4 different mills and an awesome lathe. I am an operator and slowly learning programming from my friend who canread and speak cnc code like English. No joke it's nuts.I don't know the first thing about porting and polishing heads but I thought maybe I should begin research and take advantage of this oppertunity since I hear this is very expensive to pay a shop to do? I can do it for free.

I figured I would start here and see what everyone thinks. Can somebody explain to me the proccess involved in attempting this, how much work is it, how long and how difficult it's going to be? In the meantime I'll try to start reading up on it... Thanks
