Default pulling the motor?

i'm considering pulling the motor out of my 01 to put rods and pistons in so i can handle more than 8psi. i have the tools and have pulled a few motors out of my old rangers. is there anything that would make this a hard job, or is it basically the same as any motor?

would it make more sense $ wise to just wait and find an 03-04 shortblock instead of building mine?

most terminator motors I've seen for sale have been priced so high you can build yours just as cost effectively. It all depends on what kind of deals you find and how lucky you get I guess

Unfortunately, most of us don't have a hoist to lift the car up over the front suspension. That being said it's probably best to just pull it from the top.

yeah, i don't have a hoist, just a cherry picker, so the top is probably what i'm going to do.

i have been looking for an 03-04 shortblock or longblock, and they are so overpriced. thats why i'll probably just build mine up.

Do you have fairly tall ceiling in your garage and a sturdy beam you can attach a winch to? I've seen people jack the rear end up and set the rear tires on either a pair of tires laying flat, or a bunch of 2x's stacked & nailed in a box shape about 18" high. Then they disconnect the front susp, trans, etc and winch the front of the car up and off it, roll it out, and roll the new in.Seems much easier than trying to pull through the top if you have the ceiling height. I'd guess the nose of the car ends up 8-9 feet in the air.
