Default Want to get the 97Cobra tuned...Where do I start?

I was told that I can't get a hand held tuner for the 97Cobra. I've put on mid-pipe, exhaust, UPD's, CIA, and gears. I figure it's time to get her tuned and don't know where to start.

Should I go straight for a dyno tune or are there other steps that need to be taken?

Dyno tunes can be expensive but you'll see more gains. Just call local shops and get estimates. Also what are you planning to do with your car, stay N/A DD... etc?

For example. If your lookin to add a blower soon i'd wait

Planning on staying N/A for a while. It will at least be another year before I do anything significant to it.

yea just take your tax refund and get her tuned. May even see a few more MPG's to save you a few bucks.

call local tuners to see what programs they use..i.e.Diablo or SCT..etc. I would buy the programmer they use for their tunes from them when they dyno tune you or try to buy used elsewhere cheaper, however, if you do buy from them, they usually cut you a break on the dyno time! Just heads up. Canned tunes generally run very lean on higher rpms. Sometime dangerously lean. First off before you get tuned, I would reccomend getting the spark plugs and gapping them so they can tune for that set-up. Remember whatever you change will effect the specific tune you paid for. I think the Cobra plugs are too hot really for any kind of peformance added tune. NGK TR-6's are one step colder and are great. Very cheap and are copper. Most tuners won't allow you to have irridium or platinum tipped plugs when they tune for obvious reasons...They suck and are inconsistent. I just got tuned last week and it ran me $200. They guy pulled 7 times on my car. He usually charges $150 to strap down and do 3 pulls no tuning. He knocked off $100 because he had some issue's with my IMRC's not operating so now I'm going through the deleting process and have to go back. He is more of a GM guy, but the car is solid with it's tune and runs 12.7:1 air/fuel That's the main thing I was worried about getting a tune is for it to be safe! You never know what a canned tune is gonna give you especially when you start adding all the crap up (high flow air filter, cai, TB, catback, high flow cats) Everything adds up before you know it and the ECU can only accomodate for so much! Good Luck. Ohh and I'm inAlbany,NY for those prices

Get a mid pipe and do a tune up before your tune so your car is running at its best.
