cooling problems
so i cant figure out whats going on with my snake. i had my canton overflow can break so i sent it back and i just got a new one. when it broke, 3 weeks ago, i switched to the original one but coolant would not stop leaking past the cap. so i put a new cap on it, still leaking and the temp needle started climbing.i was driving home, so i killed the engine to let it cool. i ended up having to limp the car home making sure it didnt go past 3/4 of the way. so today when i got my new canton can, put that in along with a new 180f thermostat and completely flushed the cooling system. when out for a spin around the house and it started leaking coolant pass the cap again and some of the coolant leaked on the belt caused it to jump off the pulleys and tear itself, brand new belt from ford. the canton uses the old style cap but rated at the same psi. so what could i check next, new thermostat, rad cap, catch can, and fresh coolant. the car has 43k so i dont believe the water pump as s*it itself yet. what else could i check.

First thing first is your coolant properly burped? Second You might be using too much water in your coolant. Water boils at around 212F and the thermostat opens at 195F for stock or 180F with your thermostat. That doesnt leave much of a tolerance before the water boils and expands. Try draining some of the water and adding much more coolant.

thats the first thing i had to replace on my termi, cap kept blowing off the stock tank, but when i got my canton's... they use a different cap then the stock one.. i had to buy those as well, and they say their rated for 16psi, as opposed to the stock caps at 10psi,
what did you tie your overflow into? my overflows for both tanks follow a line, into a T and then to the bottom of the car(one day to a overflow tank for the track) .. and i havent noticed any overflow........ i havent had any problems since.

ehmark, i used pre mixed 50/50 coolant, that should be about right, and water does boil at 212f but a atmospheric pressure, when it is pressurized, its boiling point temp goes up
mad svt, my stock cap said it was 16psi so when i switched cans i bought a cap of the same pressure rating.
tim, you are correct about some of the canton tanks that leak, when i called them to tell them about the problem, the said they had issues with some of their first batch of cans, so they will replace them for free with an updated design.
also i fill it from both the can and from the cross over pipe. ill try to top it off again from the cross over pipe and can. any other suggestion?
thx for all the responses, i dont want to have to pay for a specialist to find and fix an easy problem.
