I'm petting set on the idea now, getting a great deal on a 97 cherokee 4wd, and found a great v6 starter car for 2500. Also everything I need to drop a termi engine in for 4k, and 1k extra for the t-56 w/ 40k on both. found an 8.8 w/ 31 splines for 1k. v6 car comes with 95 cobra r rims w/ 285 street tires.

btw I don't care about value, just going fast.

Wait... so you're selling your Terminator so you can buy a V6 and make it into a Terminator?

If you were worried about making payments, maybe you shouldn't have bought the car in the first place. You said you're going to college, so you're probably 17/18 right now. How much money do you make? If you're having trouble with just the payments for the car, you shouldn't have bought it. You should never buy something that the payment will be more per month than you make in a week's paycheck.

^^ true. At the time I bought it I was working 40 or so a week making enough to pay it in one week, but my hours have been cut, so i couldn't put enough away for school, I wasn't irresponsible when I bought it, other things just came up. Your advice is good, and if i had known I was going to make what i am right now, I wouldn't have bought it.

But I figure I can build a car on my schedule, that will be similar to the cobra, when i have money available. I think it will be a great learning experience and give me a ton of hands on time with the car.

And yes I'm only 18.

I would first go to your bank, and see if you can refinance the car, to lower your payment.

Don't take this offensively, but you are young, and I really truly believe, with all of my heart, that you are grossly underestimating what it would take, to convert a v6 stang into a Terminator, doing all the work in your own garage...

I'd just keep the Termy, but that's just me...

^ no offense taken i want honest opinions =)
i wouldn't necessarily do ALL the work, I'd have the cage and subframes done by someone else, I don't have tools to do much fab work.

Im basicly breaking it down into a few main things, suspension, Engine(accessories, mounts, ecu, wiring,), Tranny, Rear. I expect it to be a MASSIVE amount of work, I WANT to work on it. I already refied the car once but the cost of school went up, also I have to commute 45 mins each way. so there arent any good money saving opportunities.

are you sure you even have the funds to take on such a project? ls1s and 4Vs are expensive...

I'll have about 7k cash in hand to get started, which should be enough to get the car going (not complete obviously). I'm going to take my time and do it right, so I figure if i get it done in a year or two I'll be happy.

btw I'm not 98-02 maro fan.. maybe a T/A though, but i'd prefer a stang

Crazy? Yes.

If you do absolutely need to sell the car I'd think of the worst case scenario. What will happen if you lose your job? Sounds like things aren't going too well if you are losing enough hours to where you were comfortable before and now you're struggling a bit. I had the opportunity to buy a Cobra when I was first in the market but passed it up because I believe a payment shouldn't be more than half of a weeks pay. I ended up with a GT which I'm slowly converting to a termy (already did a t56 and IRS swap).

I'd suggest sitting down and rethinking things for a bit, school is only gonna get more expensive (I'm currently working to put myself through school, trying to stay away from loans). After you sell the termy, there will be plenty of times you'll wish you had it back, regardless of what you are saying now. I made the smart choice by picking up a GT but I still hate that I passed up an opportunity at an 04 c/o cobra.

Just my opinion though, ignore it if you've already thought about it. Good luck on your endeavor.
