Default Burnouts and tire speeds (gearing)

Read a post by stkjock regarding steve's gt500 and his tire rotational speed during a burnout. Got me thinking.

I'm on a 27" tire and 4.10 gearing. I would need to be at redline to turn the tires 55-60mph in 2nd gear. 3rd gear dumps at the box seem like that might be pushing it on the stock clutch wet tires or not. I'm not going to power shift this car into 3rd. Going to a 28" tall tire wouldn't be enough.

Is the only alternative then to gear the car back up to 3.55?

I would just back it down to a 50 mph burnout and hold it a little longer.

I wouldn't overthink it to much. Burn out til you have smoke rolling up from the wheel wells for a few seconds and you should be good.

Ah thanks. Facepalmed myself just now because I didn't think of that before posting the thread.

I'm getting a line lock and installing it this summer sometime. Looking forward to that. Should make the burnout a piece of cake.

I usually go until I can see some smoke coming out and roll out of it.

4.10's 26" tire, second gear, drop clutch and keep it going without the shiftlight coming on, shift light is at 5800

wait until I see thicker lookin' smoke and go
