Default newbie got a couple question

So Ive only heard about tuners a few days ago. I have a couple newbie questions.

Can a tuners be used on different cars, or are they specific to one car? If its specific to lets say a mustang, can you use it on multiple mustangs?

finally is it neccessary to put on an after market CAI? What are the pros and cons?

thanks

1.It depends upon which brand of tuner you use. Diablo are a bit more year specific than SCT.

2. You can only use one tuner per car. Once the tuner is loaded onto the car is "married" to that mustang. Thus the tuner is locked. Only when you re-tune your mustang back to stock tune will it be unlocked and able to use on another car.

3. It's not neccessary to buy a CAI although it will provide a tad bit of HP (nothing major) as well as maybe a 1-3 increase in mpg (depending on). It will give you a reusable air filter which is also a plus. But it does cost a couple hundred dollars and your OEM CAI is fine enough. It kinda all just depends what your looking to do and how you wanna go about achieving it.

Hope this answers your questions.

Question...!

Lets say I have whatever mustang, and is entirely stock. If I get lets say a Bama Tuner and I get a canned tune:

1. What gains in HP/Torque I could get at most?
2. Has anyone done tests? Like dyno before Bama/Brenspeed Tuner, then dyno after installing the tune with the same specs as 1st test?

Thanks in advance, want to see If It really worth spending the money.

Jalf, after the research I have done I would recommend a bama tune that is specific to your mods! Plus if you buy from AM there is a lifetime upgrade on tunes, so as you change/mod your car they will make a new tune, send an email to you, you connect your tuner to the computer and your done! Why purchase a tuner as you say "canned"?

Hi & thanks for the reply conejo172, even though you didn't answered any of my questions ;P.

I know everything you just said (By the way you "explained" me the product's benefits, you honestly must be some AM employee :P or some random guy they pay for advertisement =P...) but anyway, when I say tuner I mean the gadget that helps me change the stock settings of the ECU(?), and when I mean "Cannned Tune" I refer to the setting AM/Brenspeed or any tuner send it to me via email for my car.

Okay here's the deal Jalf:

First of all one could give you a ballpark figure of your gains but it's gonna vary on the generation of mustang your referring to as well as if it's a V6 or V8. And Yes, people on MF have done tests (before and after). But typically it's pointless to go into a dyno shop with a stock mustang and/or tuner and ask then to put your car up. Typically this occurs once you've added some "real" power to your car. If you want to know about your answer to #2 the best place to get it is from the source. Call Brenspeed and/or American Muscle direct. They'll give you the scoop.
