Tuning it down a bit
Kinda slow in here lately, so I'll ask something I have been thinking about.
Everyone is always trying to get more power out of their engines with extreme tuning. Can we take things in the other direction and create a tune that produces very little power but maximizes fuel economy. I certainly wouldn't mind flashing an econo-tune right before I go on a long road trip where I know it will be all highway driving. Is something like this even possible?

LOL Soldier...OP good question, makes sense, but I highly doubt anyone has tackled this idea...Don't worry too much about the people that will sugest a Prius <sp?>...Don't get a prius, keep it America...Fiesta, Cobalt, ect...For a serious answer...I'd have to say returning to stock is about the best way to go
I haven't received my custom tune yet, but I told them I was as much concerned about keeping the mileage, or improving mileage, as I was about more power/speed. They said that was no problem......I'll keep you posted, after I try it for awhile.....
Guess I forgot about this one. I've probably put 5000 miles on the car sense the tune. I would say it's about a wash, as far as gas mileage. I'd say I'm getting around 23 on a true highway trip, and probably about 19-20 for all around driving. The power boost is pretty good, and as many others have stated on this forum, it's hard to figure the mileage, as I have a tendency to get on it a lot more that before the tune. I can see if yours is a daily driver, it could be pretty important. I'm lucky as mine is just a fun ride, go cruzin' on nice days. I'm one of those lucky old geezers, who made it long enough to retire. It's just another day in paradise....peace....
I know that the new Challengers with the Hemi have an Econo-mode that kicks in after a duration while cruising. With the ability to custom tune our engines, would it be possible to turn off fuel and spark for individual cylinders? Can we dial our engines down to a V-4? I think the Hemi has control over the valves and can also seal off the dormant cylinders too. Not possible on the 4.6. Just some crazy thoughts...
