Can tuner be used to check a CEL on a diff. Stang?
I have a question. My friend's Mustang just got a Check Engine light on and he can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I have my own tuner, SCT SF3/X3, and I was wondering if I can connect my own tuner to his car and see what the problem is. Also, would the tuner work on any other car, say, a Ford Expedition or even a Honda Civic, just as examples?
Just to read a code, yes I believe it would work as you are not uploading any info, simply reading it.
It wouldn't work on a Civic, only on any Ford from 1996 to 2010 with the exception of the 2008 to 2010 diesel engines.

OBDII specs are not Ford specific. If you can use it to pull codes from other then the vehicle it is locked to, I don't see why it has to be a Ford to read codes. My OBDII reader works on Ford, GM. Chrysler, etc.
Reading DTC codes and writing a tune are not the same thing. While I am not sure about the Diablo or SCT specifically. they MAY be able to read codes from other brands of vehicles but most likely won't be able to upload a tune to other than a select group of vehicles/engines.
