OVERDRIVE!!!
Ok, i'm going to completely ignore most of the above posts. In every auto/od car iv'e been in the od works in every gear at any speed. if your cruising with it off and then switch it on the rpms will drop. If your cruising with it on and you switch it off then the rpms will rise. This will happen no matter what gear you are in, or how fast you are going. So to get the the most power to the ground at take off you will want it off.
WTF!!! This is like talking to a brick wall... Put your car in 1st gear, drive with it at 3000 rpms, play with the overdrive switch all you want and nothing will happen.... Put the car in D, do 45 miles per hour, floor it and see what happens, it will downshift to the lowest possible gear for the speed you are doing... OD is only activated when you are at a cruising speed with a steady throttle, once you floor it, OD deactivates and the transmission downshifts....
Whatever, you guys put it in whatever gear you want, I know nothing, I've only owned 6 Mustangs, and have been racing them for 10 years....
