Default A/C Problem

I got in my car this morning and turned on the A/C. It started like normal, blowing hot, then getting a little cooler. But I noticed a couple minutes later that it wasnt getting cold, it was just blowing air at me. I got to where I was going and let the car sit for about an hour. I drove home and the same thing happened, it blew air, but not cold air.

What is causing this to happen? Is it something I can fix or do I need a mechanic? And also, if I need a mechanic, how much is this gonna cost?

Thanks for any help!

Your system probably only needs to be recharged... check your AC hoses... do they have signs of oil on em?

to to autozone and buy 3 cans of R-134a refrigerent. R-12 stayed colder, longer then 134a. Autozone will have the tools to do it, and its free as long as you buy there refrigerent. Or if you have a murrays by you go their and buy the whole kit, i always have people coming into the shop, and to my house to have me do it, and always get $20+. Thats the most common problem. i doubt that your hoses are already cracking. But like Randle said, check for signs of oil because there could be a leak. when you recharge the system put 1 can in, then check for any leaks.

My dad is taking it to our mechanic tomorrow. He said he'll check for electrical problems and leaks. But like you guys said, it probably just needs to be recharged. I'll let you guys know what happens.
